Chapter 3
by like.a.shotgun
rest up or head towards the glow?
Away from the glow!
The trap is obvious. You decide to head in opposite direction of the glow and deepen your search through the marsh. For a couple of minutes, you walk in the shallow substance that is the West Swamp. As you try to make your way through the mud-like water, you notice the air is changing; it’s becoming heavier and shrouded in a green-ish fog.
It becomes more and more difficult to stand the atmosphere and to keep on walking. Despite your growing thirst, you are not tempted by anything you see in the disgusting bayou. You are tired, but filled with adrenaline at the same time. The night has almost completely fallen on the cursed place and you are well-aware that there is a slight chance you will not survive your adventure. However, you hope for the best.
Soon enough, your progress in the swamp becomes surprisingly easier and faster. The bottom of the water is less muddy. Your feet are not getting stuck under the mud anymore. You proceed faster and faster, believing there might be hope after all. After a few other minutes of heavy sweating and swamp bugs all around you, the air becomes thinner and colder. The fog starts to disappear slowly and you finally step on firm, dry land.
When the fog is all gone, you can see that, a couple of meters away from you, is a glowing blue lagoon located deep beyond the marsh. Dragonflies and butterflies pass by you. Before you is the large pond that forms the lagoon. On the left, the remnants of swamp: there is a patch of moss and a couple of stumps. On the right are a small waterfall and a cave. You almost feel like you are living a dream. But, though you feel like the difficulty paid off, you also can’t really believe that a place that beautiful would sit in the middle of a marsh. However, you choose to take advantage of the small paradise.
What do you do?
