Audio backup

At first, it seemed to be working. Jenny slipped out of her apartment and peeked at the app on her phone, and the dot indicating her location wasn't following her.

[SIGNAL LOST, THE HUNTED IS HERE.]

Jenny was waiting for the elevator to open when she heard a flat female voice call out from around her neck. She looked around in a panic, not seeing anyone around at the moment. Having the app already open, she looked at the screen of her phone again. The timer for her hunt showed the full hour and wasn't counting down, but while the GPS map still pointed to her apartment, the pointer for her location was now marked with "last located about 11 minutes ago."

She felt a little relieved, but her heart was still pounding when she finally looked up to check her surroundings again. A few guys were peeking out of doorways now, all starting at her with occasional glances toward their phone. None were chasing her yet, but it was clear they knew she could up for grabs any moment.

She felt a little safer after she stepped into the empty elevator unfollowed, but as the doors were closing...

During her elevator ride, she quickly did an internet search on the collar's announcement, finding a wiki page that answered most of the questions she suddenly had:

[Audio backup tracking is a periodic audio signal alerting hunters to the location of the hunted in the event the tracking collar is unable to reach the GPS system. After ten minutes of being disconnected from the system, the signal will play. Afterward, the signal will repeat at randomly-chosen intervals varying from one to five minutes. The default sound is a voice saying "Signal lost, the hunted is here." but a hunted can select from a few standard sounds, or even submit a personalized sound. This feature was added after a hunt where the hunted ran into an underground parking lot and escaped the tracking signal. While it was decided that defeating the GPS system would be too strong of an advantage for the hunted, enforcing a hard rule against it raised too many potential problems, such as penalizing the players for interference outside of their control or forcing the hunted to guess what structures might block radio signals when choosing their escape routes. This solution was chosen as it allows the game to continue, but still limits how effectively a hunted can hide to keep the game exciting.]
