Chapter 5 by alphakennyone alphakennyone

What should I do now?

Attempt to run.

After hearing the order from the sheriff I hesistantly put my arm down again, but this time my body shakes, like if I was shivering. Having been a few feet away, the sheriff is now walking towards me to close the gap and prevent the chance of me running away. In my head, the constant repeating of the words "RUN" and "GET AWAY" wage a violent battle between the moral side of my head, making my outside body toss and turn.

Seeing me in this state, he quickens his pace towards me. The expectation I had before this becomes sheer paranoia. As the sheriff closes in on me, he lays a hand upon my shoulder. But as soon as he places his hand near my arm, his shoulder-mounted radio garbles static and a response from HQ. "HQ to Sheriff," garbles out. To prevent me from further getting the chance of running away, the sheriff stregthen his grip, but as last resort seconds after his grip tightens, I slap him with the opposite hand sending the sheriff to the ground.

My right arm seemed to just flash before my eyes as it traveled from the trunk surface to the left cheek of the sheriff, as if it was superhuman. My slap catches the sheriff off guard. I see the sheriff fumbling around on the ground seconds later. I probably assume that he hasn't seen enough action thus making his guard that of a rookie. Again words flash in my mind, this time overtaking my moral side of my mind. Just one word kept flashing in my head over and over again, "RUN!"

Still watching the sheriff on the ground, shocked by the **** I slapped him with, I see my chance of getting away. I run like if it was my last day, with all my strength and stamina. I run in the direction the car was pointing to and try to get as far away as possible. Even though there was no visible lights ahead of me and the only source of illumination was from the rotating siren lights, I try to widen the gap between me and the sheriff.

Meanwhile, the sheriff got back up a minute I slapped him and ran. Once he got back to his feet, he went back to his car, opened the driver's side door, and shouting into the receiver of his radio for needed assistance and backup. After, he quickly gets into the police cruiser, closes the door, turns on the siren, and depresses the gas pedal in pursuit of me. He takes the receiver again and shouts in the radio, "HQ, I am in pursuit of a young female wearing a brown track suit. She has just assaulted me and is now on foot. Repeat, requesting assistance and backup."

I really doubt that I can get far just on foot from a police officer gaining on me in his police cruiser.

Do I get caught or do I get away?
