Athena convinces me to buy condoms

“I just want you to be comfortable, Kyle.” Athena says. “If you are more comfortable with condoms, then you should get some.”

“You’re not worried I could contract the sex zombie plague?” I ask.

“We’re only at the start of the pandemic. I really doubt it’s already here.” Athena tells me.

Athena is right. Perhaps if this town was ground zero for the outbreak, we should be paranoid. But it isn’t. The disease may spread fast but it’s coming from far away. We still have time to prepare.

“Alright.” I sigh. “In that case I’ll go and get us some condoms.”

After that, I leave the house and use Athena’s car to drive to town.

It takes me a while until I find the apothecary here. But when I do, I see a huge line of people. Looks like other people are less cool headed as me and Athena. I better go find a different place. I don’t feel like standing in line for two hours.

I visit a couple of shops in hope that they sell condoms there. In most of them I can’t find any. Either because they don’t sell any or because they are too well hidden. And I am not brave enough to ask them where they are.

Eventually I find some in a store. But then I am afraid to take them to the cash register. The clerk working there is going to find out I bought just condoms and nothing else. Or what about the other customers waiting in line. I quickly grab a bag of chips, a soda and some candy to go along with. That should at least hide it from the other customers.

While waiting at the cash register, I was stressing about people commenting on me buying condoms. Luckily, the clerk was the silent type and didn’t even bother saying a word. After that, I am finally heading back to Athena. Once back I hurry out of the car with the condoms (and the other stuff) and walk towards the front door a little bit faster than usual. I can’t believe it but I’m actually looking forward to having sex with my cousin.
