Ask Danielle why she'd ever want to do something like that.

Halley maintained the skeptical look towards her friend, still trying to figure out what could possibly be going on. Surely Danielle must be pulling her leg somehow, though she was hardly the type of person to do so, and it was hardly would have seemed like the time for it.

"Why would you ever want to do something like that?" Halley insisted, maintaining her air of disbelief as a guard against the possibility Danielle really wasn't serious. "I mean, I've actually got to use these things. That's got to be super-gross for anyone, surely..."

"Still kind of cute too, though," Danielle grinned cheerfully, reaching across to playfully poke Halley's side. "And that kind of stuff never bothered me, at all. I think it would be fun if you would let me change you; like having my own grown up dolly again."

"What, like one of those 'drink and wet' things?" Halley commented wryly, getting the sense for the first time that her friend's motivations were entirely genuine, though still not really understanding why.

"I had the really sophisticated kind," Danielle raised her eyebrows enthusiastically, "that you could feed special formula and everything... and I always used to play babies with my friends..." she sighed wistfully, clearly fondly remembering days gone past.

So, that was what she saw in this. She wasn't kidding about the 'baby Halley' part. Halley only saw embarrassed indignity, but apparently to Danielle the situation seemed to present some gleeful opportunity to revisit the silly games of youth. Halley sighed; well, at least she could somewhat understand now, even if it was hard to relate. Not that she exactly relished the idea of playing 'grown up dolly' for Danielle, but if that really did come with all the pertaining help and support, maybe they were both in a position to get something out of this.
