Chapter 4
by Zingiber
Who do they find, or what happens?
An older, richer black-white couple
Keith reduced his speed as the wind picked up and the snow thickened. Ginny scanned carefully ahead and to both sides. As the road widened ahead at an inside bend before rising steeply, she saw a car stopped on the road.
"There!" she called out.
Keith drove slowly and carefully as they approached. It was a dark-colored car, a luxury model compact sports-utility vehicle. He stopped a short distance away. The headlights were on in the dim afternoon. Vapor puffed from the back, showing that the engine was running.
"Okay, call it in, I'll check it out," Keith said.
Keith adjusted his bright orange safety vest and straightened the "Roadside Assistance" emblem on the front. He tapped on the horn and opened the door, carefully finding his footing on the snowy road. He closed the door and walked through the thin coat of fresh snow toward the other car.
Virginia slid over to the driver's side and called in to their dispatcher. "South Fork Dispatch, South Fork Dispatch, this is Garnet Pass Rescue One, come in."
A crackly voice acknowledged her. She read back her Global Positioning System coordinates and the mileage on the road marker at the bend of the road. "We have a SUV upright and on the road, engine running. Keith's checking it out."
"Gxxxx Pass Rescue One, wxxx copy you xxxUV upright kxxx on the road," the crackly voice responded. They must be receiving her better than she could hear them, Ginny thought. "Say again, kxxx say again your kxxxordinates, over." Or maybe not.
Ginny repeated her mileage and coordinates several times until the dispatcher acknowledged what sounded like the right numbers. She looked up from her squint at the GPS device to see how Keith was doing.
Keith walked up the snowy road toward the other car, scanning the area. The shoulder of the road was disturbed, with snow and dirt kicked out of deep ruts. There was a ripped, wadded piece of nylon cloth in one of the ruts. It looked like they had gotten the car stuck and managed to get out of it, then decided they had to turn around, and pointed downhill again. But why were they stopped?
Windshield wipers waved back and forth, flipping the snow from the windshield as it fell. As Keith approached, he could hear music leaking out of the closed car. Something classical, with voices...opera. It must be turned up loud inside if he could hear it. Maybe that's why they hadn't shown any sign of noticing when they drove up and beeped the horn.
When Keith was a few feet away, he could get a clearer look at the driver. He was a white man, distinguished-looking, as they say, with short hair, graying temples, and a neatly trimmed mustache. He was wearing a suit-coat and tie. Keith smiled. Not your typical mountain driving wear. His eyes were closed, his lips slightly parted, and his seat was reclined. Keith blinked. Having a little nap? And the tilting steering wheel was canted upward.
As Keith stepped up, preparing to tap on the door, his eyes popped wide open. In the driver's lap was the head of the female passenger, bobbing up and down with her eyes closed, with the driver's erect penis between her lips. She was a beautiful, middle-aged Black woman with smoothly waved dark hair held back with a gold clip and pearl earrings. She wore a richly brocaded jacket and gold bracelets. His left hand was on her head, and hers was over his heart. As Keith stared, not knowing what to do, he looked at her hand, then his. Matching wedding rings. They were another interracial couple like himself and Ginny. Richer, older, maybe even with grown kids, but just as horny for each other. And it was just the thing he and Ginny might do on a secluded highway between pulling out the car and getting on going again. He laughed quietly, knowing they couldn't hear him.
Keith took a deep breath and pondered what to do as the strains of opera music seeped out into the cold, snowy afternoon.
What does Keith do, or do the couple notice first?
