Kim looked on as the necklace grew brighter and brighter. It was almost painful, filling the room and drowning out the daylight with bright green.

Through the glow, Kim could see the blonde teen shimmer. At first, it was difficult to distinguish, almost like a mirage in the distance, but Amy was changing.

Mercifully, the light began to fade. Still, reality itself seemed out-of-focus, Kim giving a warped view to Amy's transformation.

Amy was never tall, and she likely had another growth spurt before college, but she seemed to shrink until she barely came up to Kim's chest.

The girl's skin darkened, very slightly. Her complexion began to match Kim's.

Kim watched, transfixed, as Any became, unmistakably, her own true, biological half daughter.
