Ambush! Part 2
Up in the tree, you and Huntress duked it out.
While keeping your balance, you both cross your front legs beside each other, you throw jabs and hooks but avoid the other's, and you tried thrusting your kicks at each other. But all that kicking left you feeling a bit wobbly. And that was all the invitation Huntress needed to land a roundhouse kick against your side, knocking you off the branch!
As you grab and swing from the branches all the way to the ground, it was as if your senses had been instantly enhanced: your ears picked up on the gentle breeze blowing through the woods; your eyes zeroed in on the details of the knot in a couple trees around you; your nose? You smelled something, something familiar...
It was like the natural odor from Black Canary during your practice fight, when she got excited. Scratch that, it was Canary! She lunged at you, her leg extended to kick you harshly. But you anticipated her, somehow and grabbed her ankle, throwing her into a tree after spinning an almost full circle.
'Wow...' you thought. It was almost like the world around you was slowing down. 'I... I never felt like this before. It's like my whole body is alive, awake with energy.'
'Something to that effect,' replied a familiar voice.
'J'onn?' you wondered. But reality called your attention back when you heard Canary, from several feet away, take a big breath before uttering her signature Cry. You leaped out of harm's way just as the sonic waves exploded a large chunk out of the hillside that was behind you.
...
You steeled yourself with your dukes up, seeing your three-on-one fight in a new light, a more intelligent light. In a split second, you remembered your friends' weaknesses and now analyzed them like a cyborg, formulating strategies to disarm them quickly! And humanely.
"Nowhere to run, kid," Mari taunted. When Vixen touched her totem necklace, she called forth the spirit and strength of a bull elephant, and Dinah took a breath to sonically scream again while Helena aimed her crossbow at you.
It was now or never!
You concentrated on the Red in you, and channeled a chameleon's traits to seemingly disappear. The three of them swung their head all around, looking in all directions. "Where'd he go?" Huntress demanded.
"I'll find him." Mari summoned the power of a lizard's Thermal Vision, scanning the area. With them distracted, you made your move by making first taking Mari's necklace, despite the quiet snapping sound it made.
"What...?" Helena asked softly. And you invisibly stomp on Dinah's foot, making her yell loud enough to elicit her Canary Cry. The sound waves knocked Mari and Helena off of their feet and into trees behind them, having them fall on their fronts. Dinah tried to attack you, calling you out as a 'coward,' and you reappeared before her in time for a roundhouse kick, just before throwing several punches at you. You dodged them all and blocked her next kick, almost putting her in a position where she almost couldn't reach you, and them summoned two teleport copies of yourself to restrain her, pulling away.
"Canary, please. Don't make me hurt you," you warned.
"Don't make me laugh," she mocked. When you heard her take a deep breath, you dashed to her and clutched at her throat. Tightly. You didn't want to kill her, so instead of waiting for her to pass out, you used your free hand and punched her lights out, having your lookalikes back away and let her fall. You looked at her body sprawled out, and gazed at the other two **** heroes.
"It's gonna be a long day..." you pant slowly.
Meanwhile...
