Chapter 22
by robyna
So, what's it going to be? Burger flipping or bio-DNA?
All in on bio-DNA
Rick wasn't ready to give up on his life. He'd given his life to the company in the expectation that he'd get promotions, pay raises and, as a result of promotions and pay raises, get one or more women. If he took some menial job, he might be able to rent r room somewhere, but what woman would want to date a guy who'd washed out of life and was flipping burgers somewhere? Maybe he was being elitist or something, and maybe he was making a horrible mistake because he knew the longer he waited, the harder it would be even to get a menial job... he already didn't have a mailing address and was only able to use the city recreation facilities because their computer systems hadn't caught up with the fact that he was no longer a resident... unless someone sleeping in his car in the city made him a resident. Maybe, but he'd made his decision when he'd taken the first bio-DNA dose and he wasn't going to change it now.
Time to go all-in on bio-DNA.
He drove to the Wal-Mart on Ohio Dr. because he'd heard that Wal-Mart lets people spend the night in their parking lot, went inside and bought a space blanket, toothpaste and a brush, deodorant, and a couple of gallons of bottled water and then headed back to his car. Around him, a number of campers and RVs seemed to prove that Wal-Mart was the place for suburban camping. It seemed pretty lax for normally super-clean Plano, Texas but he wasn't going to complain.
After picking up a bite at the neighboring golden arches, he tilted the driver's seat all the way back, covered himself with the space blanket, and swallowed the second bio-DNA alpha-level pill.
He hoped that having something in his stomach would at least make the experience more pleasant than the previous night. If he had to go through that again... his thoughts were disrupted by...
What happened?
Fired
Hacking a new Future
Rick Peters is a marketing manager for a bio-tech company and thinks his future is made with the success of his latest marketing campaign. Instead, he's fired--the company wants to bring in younger, cheaper talent. Thanks to non-compete agreements, Rick's career options aren't good and thanks to his long-time dedication to the company that just shafted him, Rick doesn't have much of a love life to fall back on, either. Rick has to make some choices and some changes to his life. He can pursue , try to make his own millions, or even search for personal fulfilment. One thing is certain, if he doesn't do something, he'll quickly end up homeless and on the street.
