Alice finds the driver's license office
"This is the driver's license office?" asked Alice as she followed her new-found friend Riley Lehane into an almost empty office that claimed to be the local driver's license office.
"It sure is," said Riley.
"But why are there so few people in here?" asked Alice. "Usually when I get my license renewed in my hometown, there is always a line."
"Well, I guess you just got lucky," said Riley. "However, I should warn you --"
Just then a surly middle-aged clerk interrupted the conversation. "What do you want?" the clerk asked.
"I need to get my license renewed," said Alice.
"Which kind?" asked the clerk. "Hunting, fishing or driving?"
"Driving," said Alice.
"Do you have proof of insurance?" asked the clerk.
"Sure," said Alice, eagerly showing off her insurance card.
"Very well," said the clerk. "Take off your clothes and stand over there by the big white screen."
"I beg your pardon?" asked Alice.
"Strip," said the clerk. "Now."
"Why do I have to take my clothes off to get a driver's license?" asked Alice.
The clerk just rolled his eyes. "You don't have to take your clothes off to get a driver's license, Ms. Phryne."
"Oh, good," said Alice.
The clerk continued. "You have to take them off for your driver's license photo."
