Adriana decides to tell the guard the truth

Adriana looked at the guard. A young man, and a handsome one at that. More importantly, he looked competent. Even with the friendly smile that Adriana, gave him, he did not seem distracted. Nor too nervous. He had hos hand on his service revolver, but he maintained a clam demeanor.

Adriana Briefly considered fighting him. She could probably knock him out, if she got close enough, but she doubted she could sneak up on him

Adriana sighed and decided to risk it.

“Officer, do you have a name?” she asked politely

“Officer Banks” replied the guard

“Look, officer Banks, I know I am trespassing, and you have every right to arrest me. If you could give me a chance to explain myself, I will tell you exactly what I am doing here. And, after that, if you still want to arrest me, You can do that.”

“You have one minute” said the officer, his demeanor unchanged.

“Have you heard about the bicyclist, Kate Upton, disappearing?”

“Yes,” said the guard, ”it is all over the news.”

Adriana proceeded to explain to the guard about the suspicions surrounding Jack Taylor. She then showed him the financial records she found in the office, as well as the emails between Taylor and Campanella.

“Now, I suspect,” continued Adriana “that more of his records are at his house. Which is where I was going to break into next. Now, If you want to arrest me, go ahead. But I was really hoping you would not”. Adriana gave him another smile, this one less flirtatious, and more hopeful

“Ok,” said the Officer Banks, ”I am not going to arrest you. And I do want to help you. But I do want you to do one thing for me.””

“What is that?” asked Adriana.

“Your phone number” said the officer smiling, ”you know, so I can check in with you regarding your investigation after my shift.”

Adriana smiled a relieved smile, and put her number into the officer’s phone. After the two closed up the office, Adriana headed straight for Jack Taylor’s house.
