Chapter 20 by anxietycatalyst anxietycatalyst

Ready?

Absolutely

Blake nodded, and the two of them stepped onto the taxi. The doors closed behind them, and they were off.

These taxis were designed to hold dozens. However, being the only two on board, it felt rather eerie. It was practically unheard of for one of these to be this empty.

Weiss turned to her partner. "How are you feeling?" she asked.

"Like I'm about to have a heart attack," Blake chuckled, then turned towards Weiss. "You?"

"About the same," Weiss laughed back. If her father could see her right now, he'd probably die of shock.

Weiss silently lamented not bringing her scroll with her.

Not five minutes later, they felt the taxi shift and then stop. The doors opened, and an automated voice spoke through the built-in speakers.

Welcome to Vale. Please enjoy your stay!

Taking a deep breath, the two of them walked off the ship, still holding hands. Almost as if the other would disappear if one of them let go, leaving them alone and naked in the city.

As they expected, they didn't see anyone on or around the platform holding the taxis. After all, not many people have need of these this late at night. And so, they walked off, the sound of each step filling the otherwise silent building.

They stepped outside and walked down the small staircase, their bare feet meeting the sidewalk that ran in front of the building.

"So..." Blake said, feeling like she was about to pass out.

"Yep," Weiss agreed. "Where to?"

"Honestly, I'm not sure. I'm mostly focusing on staying upright, at the moment."

Weiss let out a dry chuckle, somewhat glad to know Blake was feeling the same as her right now.

Not having a particular goal in mind, the two turned and started walking down the street.

How does it go?
