Abi & friends do some extra credit

This and the subsequent chapters represent a major change in the POV and story.

I have about 6 chapters outlined. The new characters have a purpose and planned arcs. Time will tell how they are unveiled.

He should have brought an umbrella.

A sharp surge of energy jolted up Roth's spine as he rounded the corner of Bedford and Grove. He had always hated the narrow streets of New York. There was such little room to escape confrontation here, and Greenwich Village was the worst of it. Startlingly, overwhelming thumps of muffled bass derailed his train of thought. In staring up to the strobe-lit apartment from which it originated, his detest grew. Nearly thirty years ago this building became the set location for some banal (yet universally loved) sitcom. The popularity of the series had helped turn his adopted home into a borough which thrived on intermittent tourism, making it enormously difficult to separate his potential prey from those that still hunted him.

Tonight he wasn't too concerned with either. His cover as an NYU student would let him investigate his curiosity without limit.

Over the past 3 months he had felt his senses becoming exponentially more receptive. Someone from the depths was was setting the stage for conquest; Roth was sure of it.

He began noticing discrepancies in the student body: female students were returning to classes looking like supermodels, barely clothed. Faculty were beginning to behave overtly sexual in ways that, he deduced, had to be unnatural.

He was driven to this detestable flat in an effort to investigate the bimbo at the top- Abigail Darville. She first attracted his attention when she disappeared from their Art History class. The following week, she returned to lecture hall looking inhumanely fuckable. Their asshole of a professor stumbled through his lecture, struggling to focus as he made his rounds through the class. At times, Dr. Bernstein would stop at Abi's row and glare towards her, stuttering his way through an examination of the Baroque era. Throughout the the week, it seemed as if he was fighting off an overwhelming urge to rip her clothes off and take her like the whore that dressed her.

Roth's curiosity wasn't borne from such lust, however. She had changed her name to one all too familiar to him...

Darville

After buzzing the sixth floor apartment to no avail, Roth examined his surroundings: just a few stoners, drunks, and passersby, he noted. The abundant amount of construction equipment and roadblocks would serve an unintended purpose tonight.

Thunder clapped, rumbling in time with the muffled bass of the trap music. He leapt in time with it, taking advantage of the distraction. Catching the ladder about five feet above, he pulled himself up and silently scaled to the fire escape. The crimson exterior of the ground floor was now yards below him, and the bass began to give way to the chatter of partygoers. Finally, he reached the windows of his friend's apartment.

He sighed. Roth would have preferred to use the action of the rager to divert unwanted attention, but this vantage point would do just fine.

For now, at least...
