Aaron Hotchner

Aaron Hotchner, is the no nonsense chief of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). Hardworking and dedicated beyond question. In fact work has taken a heavy toll on his personal life. His wife divorced him and later she was murdered by a serial killer known as “The Reaper.” His has a son who he is worried about, as his line of work calls for traveling across the country and even abroad at a moment’s notice. His wife’s sister helps take care of his son Jack. His greatest concern is, the effect that a largely absentee father will have on his son Jack, especially as he was in the house when his mother was murdered.

As if the stress of the nature of his work and alienating his family from himself was not enough, at work his superior, Erin Strauss was playing hardball. Strauss who had little field experience herself was pushing to get Hotchner replaced as the head of the BAU, even forcing Derek Morgan to the take charge of the unit. Strauss had even tried to persuade Emily Prentiss to go against Hotchner. However Hotchner’s colleagues always support him.

Hotchner moves from case to case, relentlessly. Maybe he is trying to escape his own past, overcome the guilt of getting his wife killed and being absent from his own son’s life. What he has dedicated his life, to catching and putting away monsters no longer provides him the peace that it once used to, as his seemed to be punished by the indifferent Strauss.
