A woman

"Mr. Doe, it's time for your meeting with the President."

Your eyes slowly adjust to the light. The room is now well-lit. An attractive blond woman, looking to be about 30, is sitting in the chair to your right. The top few buttons of her blouse are unbuttoned, but not quite enough to see anything. She is wearing a skirt with dark stockings, & a professional-looking, black ensemble. She seems to be very fit & very short.

"I'm Meredith, your new assistant," she tells you, offering her hand.

You awkwardly grasp, & offer a weak handshake. "Assistant? Assisting me doing what?", you ask.

"President Davis has rescued you, & wants you to - well... I'll let her explain. Let me catch you up to speed."

Your cute, new assistant catches you up to speed on the politics you have missed in the last 7 years. When you were arrested, nuclear missiles had been detonated all along the Atlantic by missile defense systems, & 1 had gotten through, devastating Virginia.

"After your imprisonment, the war continued. China deployed its nuclear Navy, & assaulted the Western coastline, decimating California. Even more nuclear devices were smuggled in on foot, destroying key infrastructure in the South & Midwest. In just 9 months, the United States was disconnected, & beaten into submission. The entirety of its nuclear arsenal had been either fired in retaliation, or stolen by invasion forces."

"Wait! I thought you said I had a meeting with the PRESIDENT. President of what?"

"I'll get there, Mr. Doe," she replied. "Surviving states broke apart from the union, each signing differing peace agreements with the aggressors. Some were favorable, others required them to formally join other nations such as China or Germany as a sort of colony."
