A visit from your sister-in-law

Before you have a chance to decide on any plans, there is a loud knock on the door. You walk over and pull it open. Standing on your front porch is James's sister, Ashley. You immediately realize that she's crying.

"Hey, Ashley, what's wrong?"

"Sam's cheating on me!" she basically screams as she lunges at you, wrapping her arms around you. She buries her head in your shoulder and sobs harder. You wrap your arms around her in return, slowly rubbing her back with your hand in an attempt to soothe her.

"Jesus. Really? How do you know?"

"I caught him. I came home from work early, and he was fucking our slutty neighbor in our own bed."

"Shit, I'm so sorry, Ashley. What an asshole." Ashley doesn't respond for a little while, she simply cries into your shoulder.

"Can I stay with you guys for a little while?"

"Of course. James isn't here right now, but I know he won't he mind. Here, let's go to the living room. You looked like you could use a rest." You lead her into your living room and you set her down on the couch. You go to find a blanket for her. You are only gone a couple of minutes, but when you come back, she is lying on the couch, fast asleep. You place the blanket over her gently and step back.

Ashley was a few years younger than James, but you remember thinking they were twins. They were very much alike, you always joked that Ashley was simply a female version of James. Of course, since you and James got along so well, you and Ashley did well. She quickly became one of your best friends, and you were her wingman at many bars. You also occasionally set her up with guys you knew.

Unfortunately, you set her up with Sam. Sam was a good friend of yours in high school. You had a crush on him, but you were very awkward in high school and you never worked up the courage to ask him out. He went to an out-of-state college and you lost touch, but a few years back he returned to the area, and you reacquainted with him. You are pissed at him for cheating on Ashley, but looking back, you wonder if you should have seen this coming.
