A turn of events

Dear diary,
Cordelia and I had such a wonderful time! I am so glad I decided to go to the Ball with her. My father may think it scandalous, but now that I've done it I yearn to do it again. We "enjoyed" each other the entire ride home, my parents quiet right across from us. I can't believe I was able to bullseye old Mrs Haversham's cleavage with "Mr Hercules'" issuance. The look on her face as she saw where it came from on the balcony was priceless! I'm still drunk. Okay, enough writing. Time for bed. Well, bath then bed. My dear cousin was able to lick up most of the jism, but I'm sure she missed some. Don't want to ruin the sheets!

Dear Diary,
I'm never doing that again. My head feels like an autoriveter is going bonkers inside of it. Not doing anything today but recovering. Not even sure how many men I fornicated with. Cordelia, bless her heart, looks like a bug that was splattered on a velocicarriage window, all splayed out and gooey. Back to bed.

Dear Diary,
Apparently, our little performance impressed Sir Prescott enough to greatly improve my father's position. He informed me this morning that he had been named Ambassador to the American colony on Rajah 2. I ran up to him and hugged him, elated at the news. He stood there, stiffly, until I let go. I have no idea why he would look at me so gloomily with such good news. Ambassador, a proper governmental job, and one of the utmost importance. It was then it dawned on me.

"We aren't going with you, are we?" I said, my eyes wide (and still slightly bloodshot).

"No. You and your mother will stay here, on Rajah-4. Sanjay will oversee the daily operations of the estate while I'm away. Your mother will stay to make sure everything runs smoothly." He said.

"Where am I to go?" I asked, inferring that I was not going to be with her.

"It seems your time in Kingston has made you fairly popular among certain types. A Mr Drake has requested your company, and Mister Singh has given you a glowing recommendation for the Eisenheim University Science program." He said, looking out the window.

"Which one are you sending me to?" I asked, my heart beating like a drum.

"Why dear, they are partners now. Singh says you have the most brilliant mind he's seen concerning Aether-Soma relations, and Drake, well, he was a bit more vulgar. You'll meet them in Rajakesh next Tuesday." I heard his words, but it took me a moment to understand them. I was free.

"And Cordelia?" I asked. His head drooped briefly before he turned and replied.

"I'll need her talents to forge a lasting peace between our great empires." he said. I am not normally an emotional person, but I couldn't help but tear up. I'd not been home more than a week, and already I was to be sent back out again. My father saw this, and moved to comfort me.

"I'm sorry." he said, holding me close. Those words...my mind recoiled from the thought, even as he embraced me. It couldn't have been. He wouldn't..."We all must do what we must. For the Empire."

"Yes." I said quietly, hoping that his apology was for taking Cordelia from my side and not something too dreadful to contemplate. "For the Empire."
