A trip to the beach

Ann stretched as she felt the warm rays of the sun strike her body. She felt the sand under her feet, felt the wind blow against her, which carried along the familiar smell of the ocean. She giggled.

“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” Makoto asked as she too looked out at the never-ending expanse of water in the distance.

Haru had suggested a girls-only trip to the beach, much to the chagrin of the boys, since they hadn’t had many opportunities to do stuff with just the four of them. So Ann, Futaba, Makoto, and Haru had changed into their swimsuits, and headed over to the beach. Today, it wasn’t too crowded, so overall, it seemed like the perfect day to go.

“Well, we should find a spot, and get going already!” Ann said as she took off over the sand, the others soon following. Ann was ready to swim, as well as get a little tan. Maybe even play some volleyball; you know, all that normal stuff. The stuff they didn’t get to do often.

It wasn’t hard to find a nice, somewhat excluded spot for them to set up towels, umbrellas, and chairs they had borrowed. Once everything was situated, they all looked back at the ocean.

“So what should we do first?” Makoto asked.

“I want to do some swimming! I always enjoy swimming!” Haru said with enthusiasm, and Makoto nodded.

“I will swim as well. On such a hot day, it’ll be nice to cool off.” She looked around the beach. “I’m honestly surprised there’s not more people.”

“I’m sure more people will show up.” Futaba said with disappointment.

“What are you two gonna do?” Haru asked.

“I’m gonna do some tanning for a bit. I like the feeling of the sun on my back. I’ll definitely join you guys in a bit, though.” Ann said.

“I’m...just gonna stay here for now.” Futaba said, and Haru and Makoto frowned.

“Are you sure?” Makoto asked, and Futaba nodded.

“Yeah, I just, uh...need to get a little used to this again.” Futaba said, glancing around at the people on the beach. Makoto sighed.

“Alright, but don’t spend all your time here. We came here to do stuff together.” Makoto said.

“Don’t worry, we can play volleyball later!” Ann said. “We pretty much have all day!”

“I suppose you’re right.” Makoto said, and after a moment, she smiled. “Alright, everyone made sure to put on sunscreen, right?” The three girls all gave confirmation, and Makoto turned to Haru. “Well, let’s go then. Wanna race?” Haru giggled.

“Sure!” With that, the two got ready, and on a count of three from Futaba, the two raced off towards the water.

“Well, I’m gonna start tanning then. I’ve been looking forward to some relaxation in the sun.” Ann said as she adjusted one of the towels, and laid face down on it. “I’m probably gonna fall asleep, so if I do, wake me up, okay?”

“Can do!” Futaba said. After she said that, though, an idea popped into her head, one that made her giggle.

“What?” Ann asked.

“Nothing!” Futaba said. Ann shrugged and laid her head down and sighed as she relaxed. Futaba simply sat back and watched the people around them, as well as Makoto and Haru in the water. (Makoto had won the race, which wasn’t too surprising.)

After a while, just as Ann said, Futaba could hear some quiet snoring coming from the girl. Futaba crept over, and gently poked Ann, who didn’t react. When Futaba poked her a little harder, she still didn’t react. Futaba grinned, and giggled maniacally as she set her prank into motion.
