The woods was, naturally, home to all sorts of creatures, a massive untamed wild where all sorts of magical, wonderful, dangerous creatures lived. The reason Jules had yet to see anything from them, though, and the reason some stubborn folks like Delilah could call them fairy tales, was because many of them were as **** to get close to humans as humans were to them. However, just like Jules, some times oddities sprung up in their midst. Three such oddities were hiding in a bush not too far from the farmhand, small enough that one leaf each totally covered them.
"That's one! Guys, look, there's a human! I told you we'd see one this time!" said an excitable sprite by the name of Maple. Her short, spiky hair was a mix of gold, orange, and deep red, the same as the leaves she'd fashioned into clothes, and as a sprite, she was a fairy with a power over a particular part of nature; in her case, sticky sap and syrup.
"Ssh! Don't act like this was your idea..." muttered a sullen brownie named Button. Being a brownie, she had actually been inside a human settlement before, and had the power to help (or hinder) parts of their daily life as she felt she needed. In Button's case, she could lock or unlock any sort of clasp. She was dressed much like a human as well, in a tiny, patchwork set of overalls.
"What's it doing with all those twigs?" asked an inquisitive pixie named Mira. Like any pixie, she had powers that could affect others minds, and Mira's power to make people not notice things was very useful for when she wanted to get away to explore. Her long, shimmering purple hair and dress seemed to sparkle more with her growing excitement. "We should follow it!"
"Yeah!!'
"Fine...."
Ignorant of his new audience, Jules gathered up the kindling (plucking one of the wildflowers for good luck) and went on his way back to the farm. Behind him, a trio of lights, one orange, one light blue, one purple, darted between the diminishing foliage to follow him. Setting the kindling down, Jules decided he better chop some of the stored logs up to be used that night as well. The fairies, seeing him distracted by this new task, decided they wanted to have some fun with the strange human. There was just one problem....
"Me first!"
"No, me!"
"I wanna go first!"
