Chapter 4 by LynnSawyer LynnSawyer

...the drive home...

A traffic stop

About an hour passed and Katie began to enter a wooded area, the foliage thickening. Focused on driving, she didn't notice the police car parked behind a tree beside the road. Then the siren started and the rental car pulled to the shoulder.

Coming forward, the officer, a bald, clean shaven man in his mid-thirties, waited by the rear door as the window slid down. "Do you know how fast you were going, ma'am?" he asked.

"Oh...no. Sorry."

"May I see your license and registration?"

Embarressed, Katie tried to explain her situation as she fished her ID from her carry-on. The cop took the card back to his patrol car to check on the information.

Okay, now what?
