Chapter 17 by tailteller
What wakes him up?
A surprise visit
James woke with a start at the sound of the door unlocking and gently swinging open. Two women stood on the porch, one older one younger. Both had matching hair, though the one in the back had much longer hair and was younger.
His mind raced, hearing his mother's voice playfully sing "Knock knock, Jamie~."
Fuck.
Shit.
Fuck.
No.
Why.
"Fuck.", he blurted out.
His mother frowned at him. "Well, hello to you too."
He blinked and shook his head, heart racing at the sudden intrusion from his mother and sister, Terri and Sally. As long as they didn't go near his room...and as long as the alien woman stayed sleeping, he should be fine.
"Umm.. sorry, Mom. I was just taking a nap. What are you guys doing here?", he tried to pretend at being groggy. He caught the sarcastic look his sister gave.
His mother smiled and showed a small bouquet. "Lee called, he asked if we could check in on you and your "friend". We figured you wouldn't be home after his call, but you can just give these to her when you go back. I didn't know you had any lady friends, Jamie.", he and his sister winced together knowing what came next. "Any chance of grand-kids soon? Or should I not get my hopes up?"
He sighed, "Mom. Men and women can be friends without having a sexual interest in each other."
She nodded, moving inside and placing the small cup of flowers on his counter. "Yeah...your father said the same thing when I was dating the guy before him to get me talking to him."
He groaned. "No. Mom. No chance of grand-kids. She's just a friend, she got burned by like three hundred degree coffee, and she needs company."
"I remember just needing company.", she started.
Sally put her hand on their mother's shoulder. "C'mon Mom, I think he's had enough."
"Fine, fine I'll drop it...for now. But if you and this lady start being a thing-", she pointed at him.
Both of her children interrupted, "-Mom!"
"Okay. Okay. Fine. But pass the flowers on when you go back to the hospital.", she waved at them quickly.
James eyed his sister for a moment, thinking quickly. She was around the same size as the alien woman...and she might have some extra clothing. "Before I forget, Sis, I was gonna do a donation run to free up some space in my dresser next week. If you bring by any extra clothes you don't want I can add them in."
She nodded, though looked slightly confused. "Uhmmm...sure. I'll see what I've got and let you know."
His mother had already set about snooping in his kitchen. She never let them be about having enough food. A small noise of disgust hit while she had sifted through his fridge. "Oh! God. Jamie, how often do you look in here? You have moldy cheese and I bet those eggs are about to spoil."
He turned quickly when he heard her pulling items out. "Don't! Leave those in there." Both women looked at him with intense confusion. "I'm doing an experiment. What happens if it stays there for over a year?"
She didn't listen, pulling out the rotten items and throwing them away. "They become inedible and you contaminate your fridge. Don't risk your health for silly things, Jamie."
Shit. Now what would the alien woman eat? He sighed, letting them brush it off as his disappointment. As they both sat down, he resigned himself to entertaining them...and hoping with all he had nothing happened to reveal the alien hiding in his bathroom.
Does he keep her secret?
