Chapter 4 by sammycolt sammycolt

What is going to keep Chloe entertained?

A stroll around the old neighborhood

“There is no place like home!” Chloe thought, unable to suppress a smirk at the cheesy line of inner monologue.

She strolled down the street, enjoying the warm spring sun on her face as she explored her old neighborhood.

On her last couple of visits she had never had the opportunity to check out the neighborhood, preoccupied with family-time and meeting friends, however, it seemed like nothing had changed much...

Largely, the suburb was still the same it had always been. Minor changes were made to a few houses, a few gardens looked different, but overall it still looked like it had back when she had lived here as a teenager.

As she made her way down the streets she did her best to recall the names of the house owners, just getting a kick out of finding out if her memory held up and while there certainly were some blanks, Chloe still found that she remembered a big chunk of them.

The Brunsons lived next to the odd old couple, Mr and Mrs... Pellwart (?!), who used to hand out raisins for Halloween. Straight across from them were the Jeffersons, then the Rosenbachs and the next one was the Smiths.

Chloe grinned as she remembered Carl Smith, a boy six or seven years younger than her. Back before she had moved to China, it had been her first job to babysit him whenever his parents had treated themselves to a night out. A cute boy, a downright little gentleman, that little Carl.

She was happy to see the Smith's tacky mailbox still standing in the front yard with their name clumsily written across by the hand of their then five-year-old son, meaning that the family still seemed to live there. And not only that, it seemed like finally someone was home!

The garage's big roll-gate was pulled up and revealed a beauty of a car, a big, sparkling, monster of a corvette, red and shiny! Chloe remembered that the classic vehicle had been Mr Smith's whole pride back in the day and that he had almost treated it like a second wife, pampering it and showing it off. She smirked when she remembered that Mrs Smith had complained numerous times to Chloe's mum that in fact she wasn't sure if Mr Smith saw his car as his SECOND wife anymore...

And it seemed like things had changed very little as Mr Smith seemed to be busy with the gorgeous beast at this very moment as Chloe saw the man's dirty denim-clad legs stick out from underneath the car as he was apparently busy working on something.

Elated to finally find a familiar face the actress decided to at least say “Hello” to her first-ever employer and headed up the driveway, admiring the big old beauty as she approached...

What's next?
