Chapter 2
by Blues32
What does Denise notice?
A small crater outside.
I scowled, unable to understand how such a thing could happen and not wake anyone up. I mean, sure it was a small crater...but still, a crater is a crater. The grass was all burnt around it.
"You see that, Kevin?" I asked my brother, pointing out the window to the backyard. He stood up and peered. He shrugged. "Probably someone being a jerk and lighting something in our backyard," he replied. I decided not to bother explaining anything more to the dork and went outside to check. What I found shocked me. Laying there was a small hunk of glowing rock. Picking up a stick I poked the rock gently. Yeah, I know it was stupid, but like I said, I was bored with life. The rock flashed brightly and I stumbled back, blinking.
"FUCK!" I shouted as my eyes burned painfully. I rubbed them, trying to make the blur go away. Slowly the world came back into focus. Deciding that my life had changed enough for today, I went back inside, stumbling slightly. My dickhead brother hadn't even noticed.
"Didn't you see that flash?" I snapped at him, angry. That thing could have hosed me down with acid and he wouldn't have even noticed. He just shook his head. "Nope. Your toast is burning." I swored and stomped over to it. Sure enough, smoke was starting to come out. "Aw, god damn it! Don't you dare burn on me! You hear me? I want fucking PERFECT toast!" I popped it out and...it was perfect. I blinked. The smell of burning bread still hit my nostirls, but the toast was utterly perfect. Shaking my head, I grabbed a plate and put the toast on it. "We have jelly, right?" I asked my brother, still feeling confused. All I got was an "I dunno" sound. Snorting, I went to the fridge and opened it. Yep, we had jelly...were...the milk used to be. ...wait. I had checked the fridge before and there was no jelly there. I must have missed it. Oh well. I grabbed it, spread it on my toast, and sat down. Then I remembered my drink.
"Shit...hey, Kev, be a good little brother for once and get me some orange juice or something." He actually stood up and got me a glass. I had said it out of sarcasm, but he was doing it. I was so shocked, I actually thanked him. That was really odd.
Does something else happen during breakfast?
