A necklace, a ring, and a letter

This left me very confused. Grandma's necklace was supposed to go to my cousin Jane. Now that I thought about it, I hadn't seen it since Grandpa died two years earlier. As for the ring, it belonged to my Grandpa. I had assumed he was buried with it. I never saw him take it off.

Setting aside my confusion, I opened the letter and was shocked! It wasn't from Grandma. It was from Grandpa!

"Hello, Buckwheat," the letter read. I hated that nickname. I barely knew who that was and I definitely didn't look like him. "I know you're surprised to hear from me instead of your Grandma. If you're reading this, I died before she did.

"Now, I know we weren't on the best of terms. Still, I wanted to leave you something special. My ring is no ordinary ring. It has a special power. Or rather, two powers."
