A monster in the window!

It was just as Hunter was going through his head in bewilderment, thoughts racing between what the hell that was and what he should do that there was a loud bang at his window, like a bird had just flown into it.

At this time of night, there weren't any birds flying around. But sometimes bats would swoop through to eat the bugs hanging around the streetlights. Curious if a bat was in trouble but also weary of what he had just seen, Hunter sat up, walking slowly to his window. When he reached it, he grabbed the curtain, deciding to do this quick like a bandage.

...Nothing. Just a peaceful night illuminated by suburban street lights. A closer look and he saw that the dead rat wasn't even there. Maybe he really had just been seeing thi-

Wait... What was that on the window? A smudge? It was hard to make out with the street lights outside, but it was awfully dark for a smudge. Almost like a charcoal stain. And it was shaped like a hand. If it was on the inside, Hunter could just wipe it aw-

The sudden figure that appeared in his window shocked Hunter so much, he screamed and scrambled backwards, landing on his bed. With a scratching noise, the window slid upwards. Hunter felt paralyzed in fear, a cold sweat on his brow as a figure of black smoke and floating oil climbed into his room through the window like a stalking panther. And that window was on the second floor, too!

The monster was humanoid but pitch black. It was indistinct and any attempt Hunter made to focus on it did nothing to make its silhouette any more substantial. Black smoke flowed from its body like weightless oil and as it landed on his bedroom floor, it stood on its arms and legs, limbs bent unnaturally as if someone were spider-walking on their back. It bent its neck unnaturally high and in the black vagueness of its face, Hunter saw two glowing white circles for eyes and a matching glowing white mouth composed of only a jagged split on its face.

YOU... SAW ME!

A silent gasp escaped Hunter's throat as the black monster spoke. Its voice was scratchy and high-pitched, an almost inhuman rasp to its words. It took a few steps forward, silently stalking on all-fours to where Hunter was sitting on the edge of his bed. As it neared, Hunter saw a black limb rise from its rear which he realized was some sort of tail. It pointed directly at him, the tip oozing that same oily black smoke that he was realizing wasn't leaving any residue on his carpet nor leaving any smell in the air. Was it part of the monster or just some kind of illusion?

I SUPPOSE I... MUST... EAT YOU!

Hunter trembled in terror as the black monster raised up to rest its hands on either side of his lap on the bed. He idly noticed that the black smoke on its hands was just distinct enough for him to see its long, razor-sharp shadow claws. It looked him in the eyes, tail hovering just over its head as if it were some kind of feeler seeking information.

OR SHOULD I INSTEAD... MAKE YOU... MY... BRIDE?

It was just as something began to emerge from the head of the monster's tail that the black monster's head did a full 180 degree rotation, looking at him upside down despite its body not moving. The unnatural sight cause the young man to scream.

Everything went dark at that point, though whether the black monster had knocked him out or he'd passed out from fear, Hunter didn't know...
