Chapter 4 by Cantalope Cantalope

Origin:

A meteorite over New York City

BOOM.

The inhabitants of New York City collectively looked skywards as the cloudy night briefly lit up in a flash of light. A small asteroid, traveling several thousand miles per hour, exploded high above the earth as it impacted the atmosphere. What little solid chunks remained fell at an almost sedate speed to the ground below, the white hot debris blowing small craters in the earth of central park.

As the alarmed citizens peered out from whatever shelter they could find, a few looked quizzically at the extraterrestrial rocks. Several would report that they saw stirrings in the craters, little indistinct shadows that scuttled off into the darkness before they could be made out...

***********

The organisms contained within the space rock had barely survived reentry, most were burnt to a crisp and the few that survived were weak and dying. The cat-sized insectoids hobbled through the darkness, through unfamiliar vegetation and into foreign structures, all driven by one goal: to BREED.

They spread out, maximizing their chances to find suitable hosts. Many simply keel over and die, their wounds too severe to carry on. Against the odds, a lucky few find what they're looking for...

Whom do the bugs find?
