Chapter 24 by Manbear Manbear

What is it that has brought Miss Alice to see Dr. Baxter?

A message from the spirit world

Dear Sir Williard,

The following is the transcription of the most extraordinary conversation that I had with the buxom Miss Alice. It is to the best of my ability, an accurate accounting recorded for your consideration. You will recall that we were completely alone in one of Dr. Miller's examination rooms when I turned to Miss Alice and asked her what was wrong? The pretty blonde patient's eyes were wide and her bosom strained against her bodice with accelerated respiration as she turned to me and began her explanation.

"Please Dr.Baxter, I don't know who else to tell." Miss Alice smiled nervously, and I must admit my heart swelled to hear her trust in me. "Besides, this concerns you anyways." She added, and I was instantly intrigued.

"Go on, what is on your mind that is so important?" I asked her and then added genuinely curious, "And what does it have to do with me?" Part of me hoped perhaps that she had had fantasies involving me not unlike those I had experienced involving her, it would never do to accommodate this type of improper longings, but I was prepared to send her away with a gentle warning. I was not at all prepared for what she actually said.

"I have been contacted by a spirit from the ethereal." In spite of my best attempt to listen without influencing the patient, Sir Williard, Miss Alice must have sensed my exasperation with her because she immediately reached between her breasts and pulled a small folded paper from her bosom. "I know you think I'm just a silly girl Dr. Baxter, but I have a note from Katie."

"Wait." I told her as she tried to press the note into my hand. I wanted badly to take the folded paper and lift it to my face to smell the perfume from her breasts that must surely linger on the paper, but knew that I couldn't. I needed the time to get myself under control, so before I took the note from the spirit world, I instead demanded an explanation from Miss Alice.

"Why do you think this note comes from Miss Alterson?" I asked with what I hoped was professional neutrality.

"Katie and I had a system for sending private messages that we did not want our parents intercepting." Miss Alice explained and then went on to describe how they had hidden caches where they could deposit the girlish communications signalling the presence of the note by placing a marker along the bank of the river. "You can imagine how surprised I was yesterday to see the sign from Katie indicating a new message," Miss Alice breathed softly in my ear. Somehow she had closed to within just a few inches from where I stood and she now rested her hand on my shoulder as she looked up at me with excitement. "I could hardly believe it when I found Katie's note, Dr. Baxter." She whispered conspiratorially, "but it is her, I'd recognize her handwriting anywhere." This time when she lifted the note, I quickly took it from her hand and stepped away to the aetherlamp mostly to put some space between myself and this charming creature.

Dearest Sun-filly,
I'm sorry I haven't been in touch, but as you know I've undergone a great change.
Please forgive me my darling, and know that I think of you often. Who is the man occupying my house? Have you met him yet? Is he nice? - I'm counting on you Blondie, tell me what you know!
Polliwog

"Do you see Dr. Baxter?" Miss Alice smiled at my confidently. "It's Katie, that's just what her notes were like when she was still living."

"Polliwog?" I asked my patient careful this time to keep the examination bed between us.

"Our nick-names, I'm Sun-filly and she's Polliwog because she loved the river." I did not want to disillusion the lovely Miss Alice or cause her any more pain, but I was quite confident that to allow this nonsense to continue could only result in greater harm.

"I'm afraid Miss Alice," I told her in my firmest professional tone, "I'm afraid someone has been playing a cruel joke on you. This note cannot be authentic. Miss Katheryn Alterson's remains were positively identified, from what I understand, you attended her funeral." I could see the protests building as I spoke. "Could your brother perhaps..."

"NO!" Her protest was quite loud and I expected at any second to have Dr. Miller or one of his nurses barge into the examination room to see what the commotion was about, Miss Alice continued in a voice that was far too loud for my comfort. "I'm telling you, Doctor, it is Katie." I could see tears welling in her eyes as she pointed a finger at me accusingly. "If you are too stupid to listen to me then I don't care to discuss this with you any longer." It was then Sir Williard that I made what might be a grievously poor decision, instead of using reason to calm Miss Alice I closed the distance between us and pulled her gently into my arms holding her shuddering body close to mine and soothing her with whispered words and the gentle stroking of her fine sweet smelling hair.

It is a fine thing to hold a young woman in your arms, especially an attractive woman as soft and warm as Miss Alice. It was, I know, terribly unprofessional of me but I assure you that my intentions were upright. It was not until I felt her sobbing diminish that I became aware of just how smooth her skin was or how good it felt to press her soft breasts against my chest. It was at this moment that we both became conscious of the bulge that had grown in my trousers and that was now trapped between my pelvis and her belly.

Miss Alice opened her mouth and drew in a deep gasp, preparing (I was sure at the time) to let out a cry of alarm upon coming to her senses and finding herself trapped in my arms.

What can Dr. Baxter do to keep Miss Alice from screaming even louder than before?
