A lot to think about

Dinner time was the time they connected. Those moments face to face across the table were the best point to connect and discuss what was on their mind. “I want to make an effort to find a new job,” said Chloe. “This whole thing with Magnus won’t last much longer and it would be good if I could have something lined up.”

“What are you thinking of applying for?” asked Sean.

“I could look at where I am now and try to move to a better position. The only problem is that with my current experience and the size of their marketing department I would likely end up in a secretarial job, it’s what gets advertised most often. I wasn’t keen on it when I last saw a job go up but I’m reconsidering. It’s not that it’s bad, the pay is pretty good and I could probably move to a PA position if I play my cards right but the whole company is such a boys club and it’s not what I trained in.”

She sighed and sipped her wine “I don’t suppose your company has anything going? Doing marketing at a media company sounds fun and the commute is pretty good.”

“Maybe,” said Sean reluctantly “The problem is they are really strict on not hiring from families. That’s even if a job came up.”

“I kept my maiden name” shrugged Chloe. “I could probably bluff it.”

“And what address would you use?” said Sean thinking practically.

“I could put an A after our flat number. We could be neighbours” she suggested, her subversive side kicking in.

“There aren’t any lettered flat numbers in the building.”

“They don’t know that.”

“Chloe” said Sean warningly.

“Fine, fine, It’s not like I have applied or anything.” They ate some of their dinner as Chloe thought. “I could always ask Magnus if he knows of anything going now he’s working in the area. Who knows what sort of contacts he might have.”

“I don’t know Chloe, is it a good idea to keep working with him?”

“Stop being paranoid,” she chided, “you should hear how cautious he is being so as not to upset you. Anyway it might not be with him, it might be for a different company or maybe even at his new business.”

“Wasn’t that a nightclub?”

“Yes, but as long as I wasn’t just bar staff it could be fun. Something I hadn’t considered and I’m sure he needs promotion doing. I don’t know, I’m just thinking out loud. What are you going to do about Magnus anyway?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, he’s the one who kind of started all this. You told me that you have been masturbating while thinking about me and him together and next week we start our practices again. So I don’t think it’s unreasonable for you to decide what you want to do with the situation.” Chloe said matter of factly.

“Do I have to do anything?” husband asked wincing.

“No but you need to think about it. It’s your fantasy and you are being presented with a great opportunity.”

His heart was in his mouth but he knew she was right “Couldn’t you, you know, push it with him?”

Chloe gave him a stern look “No” she said. “If it was anyone else I’d consider it but if I throw myself at him he’s going to think I’m a bad person. I honestly don’t think he would even consider it. Unless you ask him to that is.”

Sean looked mortified “Ask him? I couldn’t do that.”

Chloe shrugged “We can always explore this thing of yours with other people. I just thought you might want it to be him.”

Sean went quiet. There was a lot to think about.
