Chapter 26 by Shibbar Shibbar

What's next?

A hand grenade ought to slow them down!

Nora frantically unscrewed the safety cap of the grenade, and then pulled the cord.

"Fire in the hole!" Nora cried. She threw it with some **** at the incoming Morloks climbing the stairs. It hit one in the face, and a moment later it detonated.

BOOOOOM!

A small explosion engulfed the Morloks as they scream and gibber, ripping some into ribbons and severily hampering their advance. There's no time to waste however, and Nora and Brock continue to race up the stairs. There are thousands of them massed at the base of the stairs, all of them eager to catch their prey and please their priestess. Suddenly...

CrkkkkkKKKK... KRACK!

The stairs begin to crack and crumble around half way up, buckling from the explosion and age. The Morloks panic as the stairs give way underneath them, and an avalanche of stone and bodies fall onto the masses below. The mass pandamonium gives no rest to the duo as they barely manage to reach safe ground. Just as they step into the tunnel the stairs give way completely. They keep on running some more just to be sure, but eventually the adrenaline runs out and both Nora and Brock collapse, breathing heavily.

"Holy shit-balls. That was close." Nora hit the wall with her back and slowly slid until she sat on the ground.

Brock gave her a smile. "Geez, yeah." He wiped the sweat off his brow. "...Thanks." He paused, and said it a second time. "Thank you. Thank you for not leaving me back there." He covered his eyes and breathed in sharply, trying not to cry.

"Of course I'm not going to just leave you behind! You would've save me if I was down there instead," Nora said, trying to console him, "besides, your sister would kill me if I told her I left you to die; and she can be scarier than any of those monsters."

Brock chuckled, his mood lifted. "Heh, yeah... she is sometimes." He regained his composure. "Thanks."

"Don't thank me yet, we still have to get back to camp." Nora pushed herself up to her feet. "It won't be too long before one of them thinks to come down this way."

Just as she said that, the stone walls groaned, like a building slowly losing its structure.

"...or the tunnel might get us first if we don't hurry."

"Yeah, lets go, I think I've had enough of a breather."

Nora and Brock exit the temple.
