Chapter 28 by schetefan
What's next?
A few days later, in the royal palace
As a result of the attack near Bielefeld the war room in the royal palace is buzzing with activity and many high ranking generals are ordered there to discuss how to react and wether to scout the new phenomen or not. The most important persons already waiting for the Kaiserin are Generalfeldmarschall Paul Kühn chief of the generalstaff, Generalmajor Franziska Sauer commander of the 7. Panzerdivision and Maria Schreiber minister of defence.
A short time later Kaiserin Anna I arrives, escorted by her slavebodyguard. She quickly greets the staff and opens the meeting which starts with a quick recap of the situation by Paul Kühn: "Your Highness, as you already know two days ago, during the night from Friday to Saturday a strange phenomen occured near Bielefeld: A mysterious, shining structure appeared and a hostile **** of roughly 500 men appeared out of it, attacking and killing civilians. The Luftwaffe quickly arrived on scene, but due to the attack occuring in a populated area the jets couldn't really interfere without causing more casualties. Approximately half an hour later the first men of the 5. Infanteriedivision arrived and the situation could be brought under control. The fight ended once the last enemy was dead and it resulted in almost 60 dead Germans and 500 dead enemys. After the fight the phenomen was secured and first studies of it began. To easier identify the phenomen it was named 'The Gate'. First studies of The Gate revealed that it is not a natural phenomen, but that our science lacks the knowledge to describe it accurately it. It seems to act like a connection between two universerses in the multiverse, thus proving the multiverse. While it allows the transfer of matter in both directions, it seemingly blocks EM-waves. To get more accurate results we would have to send people to the other side. The hostile soldiers seem to be of an origin similar to the ancient Romans. Judging by the equipment they seem to be out of the time of the first emperors. To be more precise judging by the appereance of their shields and our knowledge of the legions they seem to be from the Legio XIX, which in our timeline was destroyed in the battle of the Teutoburg Forest and it was never raised again.
To gather additional intel and prevent further attacks the generalstaff strongly advises that we send troops through The Gate and secure the other side. To allow a pronounced answer to the attack we strongly advise to send out atleast a division. With this I'll conclude the report of the generalstaff."
"Thanks for the report and advise, Genralfeldmarschall Kühn. Minister Schreiber, do you have anything to add or does the ministry have a different opinion on the matter?"
"Your Highness, the ministry of defence has the same opinion on the topic and I would like to add that the new world could be very rich in ressources, mostly rare-earth metals which would be needed to fuel our electronics industry. Considering that the inhabitants of that world seem to be human and to be on an ancient development level it should be very well possible to simply overthrow them and take the ressources we need by **** or we could trade with them and get the ressources cheaply, as they can't really use them on their technological level."
"Thats a good way of thinking. After reading the first reports on the situation I also reached the conclusion that we should send some forces to explore the other side. As I know you, you already have started some preparations, haven't you? How long would you need to send a unit to the otherside?"
Generalmajor Sauer speaks up: "Your Highness, on orders of the generalstaff the 7. Panzerdivision started preparations to explore the area behind The Gate. If we continue our preparations with the same speed as now we will be able to move out in seven days."
"Good, continue the preparations and move out on the first day the division is ready. If you don't have anything more to add, you are dismissed."
The generals quickly salute and continue their own work while Maria Schreiber shakes Annas hand to say goodbye and she leaves the war room to leave the palace towards earth and Berlin, where most of the government and the Reichstag are seated.
