A fascinating fossil find

There was very little of Mt. Moon left to traverse, which was good. Your team was starting to get very tired and while Catherine was helping out with her own supply of healing items, her store was running out. The last thing you needed at this critical point was to get into any unnecessary battles.

As you continued, however, Catherine noticed something in the floor of the path. Small shapes that had been dug out of the rock by someone. She gasped as she knelt down to inspect them. "Could these be...? Yes! These are Pokemon fossils!"

"Back off!" you hear a nastily voice say. You both turn to see a man with longer, unkempt black hair and plain clothes approach you. His eyes were all but hidden behind his thick glasses, but you could still feel his leer on your body. "Those fossils are mine! I found them first!"

Catherine flinched away from them. "B-but this could be such a great boon to the scientific community. You'd keep them to yourself?"

"Finders keepers!" he shot back. Indeed, the height of maturity. Catherine looked dejected, but he spoke up again. "Then again, I could be convinced to maybe part ways with one of them..." He hooked his thumb on the belt buckle. "If you could give me the proper 'incentive'," he finished with an unsettling chuckle.

Of course you knew what he was asking for, but you instinctively go for your Pokeballs. You were going to teach this guy a lesson for making comments like that. But then you hesitate for a moment. Every one of your Pokemon had been battling all day. They were all exhausted and most had a little battle damage that you or Catherine didn't have the items on hand to heal. This guy would absolutely agree to a battle for the fossils. Who wouldn't? Pokemon battles decided pretty much any disagreement. But he might demand more than just keeping both of the fossils if he wins. His price for one fossil would probably be a lot less steep than what he would demand for winning against you. Was it worth the risk?
