A Young College Couple

20 years old Johnson College Junior star safety Marcus Nealson has got his date's 4 x 4 stuck in the yard of her parent's summer house. He is drunk and wanted drive on the beach to the Smith party. His date is Kayla Thomas. Kayla is Joe's 21 years old cousin. She is a senior at Woocott Institute. You know this as they are nextdoor to your Uncle Richard's cottage. He has the double lot on the county line that borders the park. He is the oldest of your mom's five siblings.

Kayla's family lives two hours away in Central City and knows your cousin Ben (Uncle Richard's older son) a little as she is about the same age as him but a grade ahead. Ben grew up in Old East River City a suburb of Central City. Ben is 21 years old, a Junior at Johnson College, and has spent most of the past 10 summers, since your uncle bought his place on the lake, as Kayla's next door neighbor. The Thomas place has been in their family for over 80 years. She knows you through Joe and Ben but neither of you know the other well due to your three year age difference and your hometowns being two hours away.

Kayla is upset about the damage to the grass and Marcus's complete inability to operate the vehicle. She sees you and Karen and calls out to you to come over and help. From the stories Joe has told her, Kayla knows you can drive and asks you to get the truck unstuck. You get the truck back on the driveway with little difficulty (It's all about using the right speed, "rocking" back and forth, and it helps if you spend time driving on icy and snowy roads. Driving beat up near broken cars on glorified animal paths also makes you good (or quit)).

Kayla is upset at the damage done to the yard and she wants nothing more to do with Marcus. She doesn't feel safe alone with him but he has to get back to Johnson College. You could drive him back in her truck but what about her and Karen? You could walk him to the party up the beach and he should be able to get a ride back from one of his college classmates or teammates. You see a light on nextdoor (at your uncle's) and wonder if your cousin Ben is there?
