Chapter 7 by PiZzA101 PiZzA101

What’s next for Kristen?

A Pit Stop

Kristen had noticed the traffic gradually increasing as they came across the bridge, until they eventually reached the highway. The unsightly line of cars lined up in the direction they wanted to go seemed to be unmoving, but her Dad had already turned to merge with traffic. With such slow-moving traffic and such a large quantity of people around, she couldn’t help worrying about being seen more, so she tried to drop lower to conceal her body.

It took almost half an hour to reach even the next exit, causing Kristen’s father to finally tire of the highway, and pull off the highway.

As soon as Kristen noticed the car pulling off the interstate, she raised an eyebrow in her parents direction. "What's wrong?"

Her dad sighed to himself, as he pulled onto the highway which passed over the interstate. "There's no end to the traffic. We have to try and wait it out. Let's grab something to eat in the meantime." He explained calmly, as his eyes began scanning the surroundings for a good place to stop and eat. Kristen's eyes widened at the mention of stopping to eat, as she looked down at her body. "Wait a second, we can't go through a drive through! They'll see me through the window!" Kristen whined, a blush forming across her face. Kristen's dad looked back at his daughter, and chuckled to himself. "Oh, almost forgot. We could... hm..." he contemplated, scratching his chin.

Kristen's mom began flipping through her phone, and she sighed in defeat. "I just looked up food, to see what's close. The only thing is a diner five minutes down the road. After that, its' about 2 hours to anything because of all the traffic."

Kristen's dad shrugged his shoulders. "It looks like that's the only option we have."

Five minutes of driving through a torrential downpour later, the three found themselves pulled up to a brightly lit Diner seemingly in the middle of nowhere. There was only a car and a truck parked near the rear of the building, with no cars parked out front. Kristen realized that they would be pulling to a stop, and ducked down in her seat. Her dad calmly smiled in her direction. "Don't worry, we can probably eat the food in the car. I'll go inside and order the food." Kristen's dad was about to leave the car and enter the unbridled flood of rain outside, when a noise suddenly distracted him.

What's the noise?
