A Hypno-ring
It looked like a cheap toy ring.
In reality, it could hypnotize anyone who looked into the center of it, putting them into a deep trance and making them do anything the wearer of the ring said. Of course, if John wished to give them new lives, he could do that as well via hypnosis.
