Chapter 5
by ewong
What car is it?
A (heavily modified) Tesla Model 3
Mary was surprised to see the telltale insignia of a Tesla Model 3 on the car as it stopped in front of her. The car was nearly unrecognizable as it was now a metallic silver and the entire back had been fitted with bits of what appeared to be random bits of junk cobbled together. The main features were two large exhaust vents and a cylindrical capsule between them. The rest of the car had wires and hoses running from the rear of the vehicle to each wheel well, along with some braces on the front and rear bumpers.
The door opened on a swiveled hinge, what she had heard referred to as "suicide doors". It seems the car had been extensively modified. As a cloud of fog emanated from the interior, a figure quickly hopped out, looking simultaneously focused and distracted. As Mary looked at the figure dressed in a form fitting white jumpsuit, she noted the brown ponytail and glasses, and the clipboard they were holding.
"Doc?" Mary asked.
The figure turned around as if noticing the girl for the first time. The woman's eyes widened in joy and surprise as she walked up to the girl.
"Mary! You made it! Get you camera out. I gotta show you this! This is the big one, the one I've been working on all my life!"
"Doc, what are you wearing?"
"Nevermind that. We're about to make history! Get in there, Aretha." Doc said, picking up her cat, and placing her in the car.
Mary pulled her phone from her pocket and began taking video.
"Mary, get a shot of this. You see, I put a watch on Aretha's collar, and I'm wearing the same watch, and you can see they are exactly synched up. Now, I'm gonna close the door. Behave, Aretha!" The woman said as she shut the door.
The woman grabbed Mary and pulled her over to a large empty area of the parking lot. She pulled out a Playstation controller and powered it on. At the same time, the car's engine started to hum.
"You got that connected to the...car?" Mary asked, a bit concerned.
"If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 69 miles an hour... you're gonna see some serious shit." The woman said as her thumbs twitched before pulling a trigger on the controller, causing the car to go in reverse, stopping about 200 feet away from them, the front end pointed directly at them.
"Just stand there, and film, ok?" Doc said.
Then, she twitched her thumbs to change gears and held down the trigger to send the car careening towards them. Mary looked at her friend, concerned as she showed no signs of changing the car's trajectory or stopping it. She tried to side step out of the way, but her friend looked at her and nodded to stand next to her. Mary reluctantly complied and watched the car get closer and closer. Mary kept her camera on it, seeing Doc's cat seemingly calm despite riding in a vehicle without a driver, and coming quickly towards the only 2 people she knew.
Then, a few seconds before it reached them, the wires around the car and on the bumpers began to glow, and Mary thought she could see little sparks flying around the car. Then, just before it hit them, the car disappeared, leaving two flaming trails where the wheels had been, and carrying forward past the two women, the flames between their legs. Mary had to catch her breath before trying to piece together what happened.
"HA! What did I tell you! SIXTY-NINE MILES PER HOUR!" Doc hopped one excitement, her unencumbered breasts bounced underneath her suit.
"You nearly killed us! You...you brought me here to try to kill us with a car bomb! You failed, but you killed Aretha!" Mary spat out.
"I didn't kill anyone! That was never my intention." Doc replied.
"Oh yeah, then where are they?!"
"The question isnt about where, but WHEN are they! I sent her into the FUTURE! One minute into the future to be exact. You see, Aretha just became the world's first time traveler! In less than sixty seconds, Aretha and the time machine will arrive completely intact!" Doc explained.
"Wait...wait a minute, Doc. You mean you built a time machine...into a Tesla?" Mary asked feeling a chill from sweating.
"The way I see it, if you're gonna make a time machine into a car, why not make it with the best technology of our time? Oh, and you should probably be wearing one of these." Doc said, holding a yellow jumpsuit similar to her own.
"Why? You wanna start a cosplay group?" Mary asked, rubbing her arms for warmth.
"You should look down"
Mary looked down, and was shocked to see she was absolutely, 100% naked! Not even socks or footwear remained. Her B-cup breasts were completely exposed, her pert pink nipples were erect in the cool air. Lower, she saw her smooth tummy and landing strip of hair just above her bare treasure between her legs. She quickly grabbed the suit and held it in front of her body.
"What the hell, Doc?" Mary cried.
"Oh, I still need to work out something about the flux dispersal..." Doc began.
Beep Beep BEEP
Doc looked at her watch before grabbing Mary's arm.
"Look out!" Doc yelled as she pulled the girl away just as the car seemed to materialize out of thin air.
Mary was too shocked to notice the suit had caught on the car as it flew past, wrenching it from her grasp. Both women stood to the side as they looked at the returned vehicle. Neither sure what to do or how to react. Doc took a step forward, and the rear vents began to spew a cloud of unknown vapors. Doc paused until the venting stopped, then approached the vehicle. Mary looked at the car, noticing it was coated in a frost like substance. She saw Doc touch the handle, but the handle didn't pop out as it should. Doc recoiled in shock.
"What, did it burn you?" Mary asked.
"No, it's just freezing cold. Hang on..." the woman said, stepping back.
Mary watched as Doc kicked at the handle, breaking the coating of frost on the handle, and saw it finally extend. Doc took no chances and used her foot to push the door up and out as more chunks of frost and ice fell off.
"Hey! Aretha! You cutie kitty, how are you?" Doc ask, hugging her cat and carried her up to Mary.
"She's ok?" The naked girl asked as she pulled her phone up to record more.
"Aretha is completely unharmed! Look, her watch is now exactly one minute behind mine! She skipped over that minute to arrive with us now in the future. For her, the trip was instantaneous! Come here, I'll show you how it works. Oh...I guess you're not cold? You look cold." Doc said.
Mary looked down and once again noticed her unclothed state. She looked around, and saw the jumpsuit hanging off the car's various machinery in the back. She went to grab it, but it wouldn't budge. The garment had been fused to the car due to the frost!
"Dammit, Doc." Mary grumbled.
"I only had enough time to order two. I suppose you can wait for it to thaw before putting it on. In the mean time, film me giving a tour of the time machine!" Doc said, enthusiastically gesturing to the car.
Mary looked around, seeing no sign of life, she figured she was ok to bare herself in front of her friend, who seemed unaffected by her nudity. She raised her phone and nodded at Doc to begin.
"Hello, my name is Doctor Emma Green. It is Monday, October 18th, 1:18am. I am the inventor this...time machine. Inside, come on in Mary, is how you control your travel." Doc said, as she sat in the driver's seat.
"First, you turn the time circuits on." The woman said, reaching for a switch near the right hand arm rest, turning it.
A tablet mounted to the right of the touch screen display turned on, displaying three rows, each showing a date and time, and a keypad below. Each row was labelled. The top read "DESTINATION" while the middle row said "PRESENT" and the bottom row said "ORIGIN"
"See, the top tells you where you're going, the next one tells you where you are, and the last one tells you where you were. Say, you wanted to see the signing of the declaration of Independence." Doc said, using the keypad on the screen to enter the date, then seeing the date on the "DESTINATION" row change.
"Now here's a major date in the history of science! November 2, 1995." Doc said, punching in the date.
"Why that date?" Mary asked.
"Its the day I invented time travel. My god, has it been that long? I was working on my doctoral thesis (when most of my colleagues were in their late 20s, I was already about to graduate when others my age had barely begun their coursework) and I got near the end. A nail holding a clock on the wall failed, dropping the clock on my head, knocking me out completely. As I came to, I had a vision. A picture in my head. The Flux Capacitator." Doc said, motioning to a box mounted at the back of the cabin, showing a glowing X and wires coming out of it, leading to the equipment in the back of the car.
"Flux Capacitator?" Mary said in disbelief.
"This makes time travel possible." Doc explained.
"So uh, Doc? Does this thing run on standard electric motor, an internal combustion engine, or...?" Mary asked.
"Oh, the electric motor is stock, but I had to get rid of some of the internet based gizmos. Hell of an undertaking, but you don't want to travel back in time before wifi, and find out the car won't turn on. It would be like a bad plot twist in an 80s comedy or something. Plus, I added a gasoline engine from a Prius as an auxiliary in case the solar panels are damaged on re-entry and can't charge the motor. Theres a few other things I'll get to, BUT... time travel requires something a bit more potent. URANIUM!" Doc explained nonchalantly.
"Uranium? You mean this fucker is NUCLEAR?!" Mary shouted, covering her naked body with her hands.
"No, no. This fucker is electrical. I just need a reaction. To generate the 1.21 Jigglewatts to power the time machine.
"Doc, you...you can't just walk into a store...a-and buy Uranium... Did you rip that off?" Mary asked.
"Shhh! Of course." Doc saw Mary was still filming, and whispered her answer before continuing, "I heard from some Afghani nationalists who wanted me to build them a bomb. Imagine their surprise when they dropped the bomb, only to see everyone stripped naked within a five mile radius!" Doc laughed.
Mary had been finally able to extricate the suit from the car, and put it on. To say it was form fitting was an understatement. It hugged every part of her, accentuating her curves and even showing a pronounced camel toe and showing her hard nipples poking at the material.
"I know it can be a bit to get used to, but I had to specify these for peak protection and mobility. This polymer is the only known substance that will both block radiation from the uranium and not be obliterated by the vehicle's time travel matrix. I didn't expect it to get so close to us before the temporal displacement. Something to tweak later. Now, to fill the nuclear reactor for the next journey." Doc stated.
Doc and Mary placed protective head shields that made them look like Hazmat workers, and proceeded to open the cylindrical container in the back of the car. A simple turn, and the lid was able to pop off, exposing a port to insert a uranium core. Doc opened a large suitcase covered in nuclear radiation warning stickers, and pulled a canister from it, plugging the canister into the port, and sliding it inside before placing the lid back on and turning it to seal. Doc then took off her head gear, amd motioned to Mary, who was filming the whole thing.
"That should do it. Now, I should have led with this, but I will be going away for a while. Well, maybe not for you. I can be back here the instant I left, but I'll be gallivanting around the time-space continuum. Looking at where we were, where were going, see the fall of ancient civilizations, maybe meet a few historical figures, covertly of course. Wow, I remember when this mall was still bare land. Two perfectly even-sized hills were in the middle. Old man Peabody owned all of it. He had a strange affinity for...covering the top of the hills with roses..." Doc looked off into space in thought before shaking her head and clearing her mind.
"Anyways, start recording." Doc instructed.
"I'll miss you, Doc." Mary said as she pointed her phone at her friend.
"I'll be back before you know it. Ready? Ahem. I, Dr. Emma Green, am about to embark on an historic journey. I'm packing all the things I would need in my trip. I'm sensitive to most synthetics, so I need to have cotton underwear. Different currencies, identifications, anything else? Oh! I almost forgot to pack extra uranium! How am I supposed to travel through time? I must out of my mind!" Doc explained.
Mew...grrrrrwlll
"What is it, Aretha?" Doc asked, looking at her cat.
Doc and Mary looked to where the cat was looking, seeing a bright light from a car's headlights entering the parking lot.
"Oh my god. They found me. I don't know how, but they found me... Run for it, Mary!" Doc said, running to cover behind her van.
"Who? WHO?" Mary asked.
"Who do you think? The Afghanis!"
The car they drove turned out to be an unmarked beige SUV from the early 2000s. As soon as they got close enough, the sun roof opened, and a man wearing a scarf and leather coat poked his head out, brandishing an **** rifle. Mary and Doc raised their hands. The windows in the front doors rolled down, and two more men poked their heads out, and the driver shouted in Arabic. The gunman aimed his gun at Doc before the driver said something else.
"You don't understand?" the passenger asked.
Doc and Mary shook their heads. The three men laughed before the passenger translated...
