9/11 Memorial

The two travelled to quite a few places in New York this day, but nothing was quiet like going to see the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.

It was already quite an emotional place to be in the first place but not being aware of how it affected Tiffany’s family at the time was heartbreaking to say the least. She spoke about how her uncle was inside the North Tower, the morning the first plane collided.

“I’m so so sorry Tiffany, that’s horrible, I can’t imagine what it would have been like to go through all of that,” he said, sympathising with her.

“I mean, I was too young to know what was going on but thank you, my parents struggled with this for quite some time,” she began to explain, “The thing is, Dad was actually planning on meeting up with his Uncle Mike that morning for coffee, since they both work in the city nearby. But he ended up having receiving an urgent phone call from a client so he had to cancel the coffee plans cause he would be travelling across the other side of the city.”

Tiffany eyes began to water just a tiny bit, finding it hard to share her fathers story.

“And if uhh... if he didn’t have that call, maybe they’re having coffee and some breakfast outside of the tower the same time you know what happened then maybe... maybe... Uncle Mike’s still alive.”

Mark held her in his arms as it started to be clear that this story was extremely hard to speak about. Even for Tiffany who was too young to remember it at the time.

“You can’t think like that, all those what if’s, it just makes it even tougher for yourself,” he said, trying to comfort her.

“I know, I know, you’re right. This is just how dad felt about this for years after 9/11,” she explained again.

He couldn’t imagine being in Tiffany’s fathers’ shoes at the time that this went down. It would have been something on his mind day after day even though there was nothing that he did was wrong.

Tiffany and Mark stayed at the memorial for a while, she found it nice having someone new here with her, being able to discuss it all with him.

Eventually they moved on and began to check out other parts of the city including watching a broadway performance after dinner.

The two then headed back to Tiffany’s after dark. She reached to hold his hand as they walked up the driveway to the front door.

Now this felt special.
