Chapter 5 by thestarwarrior thestarwarrior

...Now What?

8: Test the dice.

Needless to say, I was still skeptical. A magic dice that can mold and shape the world around you sounded very, very outlandish. Still, I couldn’t help but try it once more to see if there was any truth to what Siobhan or the storekeeper said. Taking the dice, I walked over to my kitchen table and tried to think of something to wager. Something small, preferably, just in case what Siobhan said was true though I highly doubted it. Having the person who gave you the dice and told you the story about the dice, suddenly be manipulated by the dice, was more than just a little suspicious.

Since Siobhan was the first one to suggest it, I decided to roil for money, about fifty bucks to cover this month’s rent. I give the dice a quick shake and toss it onto the table. It bounces off the hardwood surface until stopping on an eight, the number glowing in a bright red hue.

I let out a long sigh, “I guess this means something bad will happen,” I mutter to myself. I start to look around the room to see if anything had changed. So far, everything still looked in order. All of the furniture was still in place. The appliances were still in working order. Next, I checked my pockets to see if anything had suddenly appeared like an abnormally expensive water bill or a court summons. Nothing.

I was about to write it off as a prank and was about to make my way to the bathroom when I realized there was nothing in my pockets. My wallet was gone! I quickly checked my pockets to make sure. I felt my keys, a pocket knife, and my cell phone, but no wallet.

In a panic, I searched my apartment to see if I had dropped it somewhere, but despite how hard I searched I couldn’t find it. I began to wonder if that woman took it while I wasn’t looking, but I didn’t remember removing it from my pocket or her coming close enough to me to snatch it. The only other place it could be was the restaurant where I bought the sandwiches.

In a sprint, I ran for the front door, bumping into my kitchen table on the way out.

Do you find your wallet?
