What's next?
4th week - no longer a doctor
By the start of the fourth week of his sessions, Chase was satisfied that Valeria had reached a turning point. He was ready to intensify his sessions to begin her full adoption of her new identity, the next step having her quit being a doctor.
Monday
Valerie awoke with a faint tension, a mixture of anticipation and calm. Her days had already been consumed by small tasks, both at work and home, but today felt different. Chase’s session was scheduled earlier than usual, and there was a subtle thrill in the thought of seeing him.
At the clinic, even simple decisions felt like effortful exercises. She hesitated over charts, double-checked routine prescriptions, and found herself instinctively tidying the office between patients. Her old confidence continued to slip, replaced by a growing focus on small, precise tasks.
Afternoon with Chase: He leaned close, voice low, persuasive.
“Valerie, you’ve carried so much pretending to be Dr. Valeria,” he said. “All that pressure, all that expectation — it’s exhausting, isn’t it? You don’t need it anymore. All that skill, all that effort, is just a mask. Don’t you want something real, something satisfying?”
Her lips parted, eyes softening. “Yes… I don’t want the stress.”
“Exactly,” he murmured. “Valerie, every moment of service, every small act you perform — that’s real. That’s yours. And it’s enough. It’s more than enough.”
Tuesday
At work, Valerie felt her tasks as a doctor growing heavier, almost alien. Each interaction with patients felt like a performance she could no longer sustain. Her attention constantly drifted to small, ordered tasks: straightening chairs, organizing folders, adjusting instruments — micro-actions that gave her a deep, inexplicable satisfaction.
Afternoon with Chase: The session grew slightly longer, more focused on identity reinforcement.
“Valerie, notice how natural it feels to serve, to care for others in small, deliberate ways. That feeling — that peace — doesn’t come from being a doctor. It comes from doing what Valerie does best.”
Her breathing slowed, chest relaxing. “I… I like that,” she whispered.
Chase smiled. “Good. That is who you are. That is the life you were meant to embrace.”
Wednesday
Valerie arrived at the clinic and almost froze when asked to lead a patient consultation. Panic briefly surged; she fumbled over basic explanations, consulted references for simple procedures, and felt her confidence unraveling.
By contrast, tidying supplies, folding charts, arranging instruments brought her calm and pride. Each deliberate, small action reinforced her growing sense of self as Valerie.
Afternoon with Chase: The session shifted toward career disengagement.
“You don’t need the title, Valerie. The stress, the pretense, the endless expectations… that’s not for you. You already excel at what matters — focus, service, devotion. Imagine leaving the doctor’s life behind. Imagine how freeing it would be to dedicate yourself fully to the things that bring you real satisfaction.”
Her lips parted, eyes wide. “I… could?”
“Yes,” Chase whispered. “It’s your choice. You’ve already been practicing it every day. Leaving that life behind is natural. It’s the next step.”
Thursday: Reinforcement and Submission
At the clinic, Valerie’s attention drifted constantly from professional tasks toward small acts of order. She organized instruments obsessively, polished surfaces meticulously, and felt an emerging pride in her domestic efficiency rather than her medical skill.
Afternoon with Chase: The session was one of his most intense yet, deliberately pushing her internalization further.
“Valerie, all week you’ve felt the pull — the peace, the satisfaction in small, deliberate work. That is who you are. That is your strength. Every signature, every act of service, every careful task — it’s preparing you to fully leave behind Dr. Valeria. Can you feel that? That it’s time to let her go?”
She shivered softly, a mix of fear and longing. “I… think so.”
Chase smiled warmly, eyes dark with satisfaction. “Good. You’ll find it’s easier than you think. And more rewarding.”
Friday
By Friday, Valerie’s old confidence and professional instincts had nearly disappeared. At the clinic, she struggled with even basic medical procedures. Every patient interaction left her tense, distracted, and internally disengaged.
Instead, she focused on small, deliberate acts of service:
Straightening chairs and tables
Organizing files with meticulous care
Preparing instruments or office areas thoughtfully
Afternoon with Chase: He gently but firmly cemented the final step.
“Valerie,” he said softly, “you’ve realized this week that being Dr. Valeria is exhausting, unnecessary, and not who you truly are. You are Valerie. You excel at service, at devotion, at quiet purpose. It’s time to make it official — to leave that old life behind and embrace the one that feels real.”
Her breathing slowed, body relaxing, chest lifting with an almost euphoric calm. “I… I want to leave it,” she whispered.
Chase smiled, satisfied. “Then do it. Sign the resignation. Accept your freedom. Your new life as Valerie is ready for you.”
By the end of the day, the documents were signed, phone calls made, and emails sent. Dr. Valeria Rivera was effectively gone. In her place stood Valerie, proud, composed, obedient, and fully internalized. Her satisfaction now came from service, order, and devotion — at work, at home, and with Chase — the spiral complete.
At this point Diego had no idea how much his mother had changed.
