As much as you were still pissed at her, you figured you could maybe hear her out. You weren’t going to apologize but instead secretly hoped to know how Dennis is faring (preferably in misery)!

You both left the police station and went to a nearby restaurant to eat. Your mom offered to pay so you wouldn’t mind since you hadn’t eaten.

Just as you got your food though, she grabbed your attention.

“Henry, why did you hurt your new dad?”

You didn’t say anything but instead took a bite of your food.

“Henry… answer me please.”

“Wrong way to go about it, don’t call him dad then try again.”

Shelly just took a deep breath before trying again.

“Okay, why did you attack Dennis?”

“In front of the whole lunch room, he kept mocking me and threw a pregnancy test in my face claiming you were pregnant and wouldn’t stop laughing. I already hated him from the get go but he pushed me enough that I just stopped thinking clearly… don’t regret it though.”

You answered her in a calm monotone voice.

She didn’t say anything for a bit but then without warning. She softly grabbed your hand like she often used too.

*Sigh* So that’s the case then, you weren’t supposed to find out yet… are you ok?”

“No I’m not, you and dad not only broke our family apart but the two of you each married someone way younger who also go to my school. He married that bitch who always wouldn’t quit harassing me and you married the douchebag who wants to hurt me all the time.”

“Now I’m a fucking laughing stock every where I go, you and dad didn’t even think how all this would go and left me to deal with all this alone and I hate you both for doing this. Why him mom!!? Why do this with someone you know all too well that wants to make people he sees below him miserable and cares for nobody but himself.”

Your mom was silent but then calmly answered.

“Tony and I, we both have our reasons. You don’t realize it but me and your dad agree this whole thing will be worth it in the end. I actually still love your dad but we needed to do all this Henry. I’m not apologizing if anything you need to stick it out for a while longer. That’s all you need to know.”

You just looked at her like she had two heads.

“Stick it out… what does that even mean!!?”

She only said she can’t say anymore until the baby is born. In the meantime, you just have to put up with all this and when things cool down then maybe things can go back to normal.

“No, it can’t… I guess this is it then. Don’t bother trying to use some quasi mystery crap to manipulate me. Don’t bother trying to keep in touch Shelly because I don’t want to talk you ever again. Thanks for lunch but do me a favor and go to hell.”

You just left Shelly behind as she watched you leave. She could only sigh as she rubbed her growing belly.
