You stand there, transfixed and paralyzed by indecision, for several seconds before you realize you can MAKE 'Fate' chose. When the robbers turn to escape they will ether shoot at you, thinking you a hero, or ignore you, assuming that as you have not intervened you are a villain showing them 'professional courtesy', and make good their escape: once one of those happens, the die will be cast and you will be set on your path.
The seconds tick by as more and more of the people in the store notice you standing there, before, at last, one of the robbers realizes they are looking at something other than them, turns to look, and...
