"We should never have killed Jim." Sharon 6 sobbed. "I miss him already."
The two sets of Sharons compared notes. In this alternative reality in which Sharons 1 to 4 now found themselves, it appeared that everything had happened identically to in their own home reality, up until the moment that Jim had attempted to get the device out of his pocket. Sharons 5 to 8 had been rather more alert than their counterparts, and had overpowered Jim and smothered him to death with their breasts. "It was the way he would have wanted to go," Sharon 8 said, rather loudly. "Shush," whispered Sharon 7. "Not so loud. Do you want to get us all arrested for murder?" But they were far enough away from the other mourners not to have been overheard.
"Didn't Jim's parents find it rather odd when four identical Sharons turned up for the funeral?" Sharon 3 asked. "I think Jim's device somehow makes it so that everybody accepts whatever happens as a result of it as being normal," Sharon 5 said. "And since our splitting was a side effect of what Jim did with the device, everybody seems to think it's normal that there are four of us. Talking of the device, we've got it back at our apartment. We're tempted to experiment with it, and explore a few more realities. There's a big difference between having something done to you, without your being able to influence it, and doing it yourself.
