Chapter 20

"God loveth a cheerful giver"
"And loveth a thankful heart"
"Cindy, your salmon is ready, Hector, I really need you to get on those plates!" Piper yelled, frantically trying to keep Quake running smoothly.
"Are you really sure I need to be here?" You mumbled to Phoebe, who was perched next to you sipping on a martini, awaiting the arrival of Stephan, you thought his name was, honestly you didn't care what his name was.
"Yes, I want you to meet him so you'll see what I mean, you have no reason to worry about him being interested in me." Phoebe assured you, and while you mentally agreed since his attraction to Phoebe was purely for her youth, you couldn't outright say that.
What was unusual was that Stephan hadn't arrived yet, although you were pretty sure this scene felt familiar. You heard the tapping of heels coming up behind you, as you glanced over your shoulder to see Prue judgemental face looking at the pair of you.
It amazed you how Prue's glare still made you feel like a student who'd been caught sneaking out of class.
"Is that Armani?" Prue's tone may have sounded curious, but you knew that she was only asking out of requirement before chiding Phoebe.
"Don't worry, it's not yours." Phoebe replied, which only got a raised eyebrow from Prue.
"I know, I couldn't afford it." Oh yes, this was the scene where they got in the argument about personal gain. "Could you excuse us a minute Leo, we need to have a sisterly chat." Prue said, turning towards the kitchen.
"Sure thing, Prue, but if you're going to to scold my girlfriend for buying a super expensive dress, I do feel I need to be involved, seeing as how I bought it for her." You retorted, an unfamiliar flame blossoming within you.
Apparently it caught Prue as off-guard as it did you as she paused, turning a withering glare at you as the flame seemed to grow a bit.
Ahh, so that's it. You thought, in all your time here, you'd actually forgotten that you weren't actually Leo the white-lighter, you were simply a higher power occupying his body, and while Leo was more willing to put up with Prue's dominant personality, you rebelled against her authority.
"Fine." Was her only response as she resumed stalking towards the kitchen as you followed, first emptying the remnants of your club soda.
As you went to open the door, you remembered the climax of this scene when Andy barged in, nearlt knocking a bunch of plates over, as Piper panic-froze the kitchen, rather than mimic that incident, you barely opened the door, before sliding in the gap.
"Hey guys, what are you doing in here?" Piper asked, the panic mounting in her eyes.
"The same thing they do at home apparently." You answered. Prue gaze shifted to you.
"Phoebe told me the truth, in the future I would appreciate it if you didn't lie to cover for Phoebe." Prue said, before shifting her eyes back to Phoebe.
"What was it, the track, cards?" Prue all but ordered Phoebe to answer, and it didn't take a genius to see that she would if for no other reason than she felt justified in her reasoning.
"The lottery." She shot back.
"The lottery! I thought we'd agreed not to be using our powers." Prue returned fire, and you could see the panic practically leaking out of Piper.
"I didn't agree to that at all, and besides what was I supposed to do, ignore the vision, not help a couple about to lose their home, if we're not helping people then what are we doing?!" Phoebe yelled, and it almost surprised you that the kitchen noise didn't pause for even a second.
"We are helping people, not ourselves get rich though, you read the Book, what about personal gain?" Prue snarled.
However, before there fight could continue, Andy charged into the kitchen, and as prophesied, slammed right into a busser carrying a load of plates that started to fall.
Piper seemed stunned by everything, and for a second you worried she wouldn't make everything freeze in time as you grabbed her shoulder, preparing to pull her out of way when her hands shot up and the entire kitchen went dead silent.
"Great, just great, can someone please tell me what I did in a past life to deserve this? I just wanted to be a chef, not run an entire restaurant! And I absolutely hate being a witch!" Piper lamented as both Prue and Phoebe paused in their argument.
"But you look so gorgeous Pipes." You felt the need to interject, which actually seemed to make the situation worse as all three sisters turned to look at you.
"How are you not frozen, I understand Phoebe and Prue since you said good witches can't freeze but I'm pretty sure you aren't a witch?" Piper asked, and you could see Prue looking at you suspiciously.
"Who knows, maybe it's because I was holding on to you when you froze the room." You suggested.
"Um guys, I don't mean to worry you, but everyone outside is still moving." Phoebe said.
"Even better!" Piper shouted, waving her hands around. "Not only are we getting further behind every minute, but I have no idea how to control my powers any better than Phoebe."
"How long does this usually last?" Prue asked, and Piper shrugged.
"No idea." Was Piper brilliant response.
"Well, in that case, let's fix this mess shall we?" You suggested as all three sisters looked at you incredulously.
"And how are we going to do that?" All three sisters seemed to ask at once.
"Well first, let's help this guy." You straightened the busser, affixing all the plates in his hands once more. "Now I'm going to cover for you, and get you a little time." You said, seamlessly swiping Andy's badge as you went out into the main area.
"Hello, may I have your attention please! My name is Leo Wyatt, I'm a cop, dinner will be a little late tonight as the SFPD questions the kitchen staff, we apologize for this trouble, and if you would like to file an complaint, please address them to Andrew Purdue! Thank for your time!" You shouted as you went back into the kitchen, returning Andy's badge.
"What did you just do, you can't go around impersonating cops, you'll get arrested!" Prue hissed.
"I'm trying to fix the problem that started with you, and was only made worse by your boyfriend charging in here, knocking people down!" You whirled on Prue faster than you had time to think.
"Um guys, not to break up the party but there's a guy coming straight for the kitchen." Phoebe said as Prue turned around, going to look out the door.
"Dammit, it's Andy's partner!" Prue said, all of you looking at the still frozen kitchen, panic setting in to Piper's eyes once more.
"Hey Piper, this would be a real great time for your power to end." Phoebe shouted.
"Agreed." Prue added, apparently putting the anger behind her for now.
"Yeah, well I'm all for that, if I knew how to stop it. You got any more brilliant ideas Leo?" Piper asked.
"Well, there's one but it's a bit of a last resort." You mumbled.
"I don't know if you noticed Leo, but we're up to our last last resort!" Prue shouted.
"Okay then, on your head be it." You muttered.
Before you had time to think about it, you whirled around scooping Piper up and kissed her deeply.
Stunned silence reigned for a few seconds before you heard the clatter of kitchen staff hard at work as you set a glassy eyed Piper back down.
"He, I really hate being a witch, but suppose it does have it's perks." Piper mumbled.
