"...the Dragon Scale," the old woman told him. "It is an ancient relic, of which knowledge has been passed down from one generation to the next. Retrieving it may be your best way to convince the great dragon Faron to give you her part of the song."

That all sounded good to Link, but he had one question for her: where was the scale located?

The crone let out a well-humored laugh at the question. "Well, one can never be exactly sure, but last I heard, it was buried in the sands of the desert. It is also said to have been made in concert with the Beetle you now have." With that idea in mind, Link used a statue to head back into The Sky, then flew to the partition in the thick cloud layer so he could reach the Lanayru Desert.

It had never been his favorite place on the surface, that was for sure, but if coming back here could lead to a clue on how to proceed, Link could stomach being here a little longer. He brought out Fi, knowing the Sword Spirit would be of help now. "From what you were told, Master, I should be able to Dowse for the scale by honing in on your Beetle's energy." Sure enough, she was soon pointing the Master Sword in the direction of something. Whatever it was, it seemed to be buried under the sand, but with a little help from the Gust Bellows, the obstructing sediment had been blown away, and a golden dragon's scale, the size of a dinner plate, was revealed.
