"-a cigarette."

Her delicate left hand mimics the motion of holding a cigarette as she makes her request.

"I'm sorry, Miss... I mean Doe. The rules do not allow any tobacco in this area."

Doe's face falls a little, and her voice gets a little ****. "Please? You don't know the week I've had, or how much I need my cigs to calm me down." She moves closer to the glass door. "If you're a smoker, then you'll know what I'm talking about."

"Sorry, never picked up the habit."

"But I'll bet you know where you could get a cigarette or two real fast," Doe urges. "From another guard, or stuff you've taken from prisoners."

The truth was, you did have a drawer of confiscated items at his guard station that he hadn't gotten around to reporting to the warden. Obviously, stuff like **** or weapons went straight to the warden regardless, but lesser stuff like tobacco, porn, or stuff otherwise forbidden from prisoners, but not a security or health threat, were generally just allowed to pile up in the drawer. You knew there were several varieties of smokes in there.

Doe saw your silent contemplation and suspected she had been right. "See!" She said earnestly. "I'll bet you could get me a cigarette - or three- in just a few minutes, and no one but us has to know."

"Okay, yeah, I could get you something, But if the other guards or my boss found out, it would probably be my job. So as much as this job has it's downsides, I'm not throwing it all away for nothing." You start to turn to leave.

It seems Doe thought that she had you convinced, and your eminent departure was upsetting to her for some reason. "Wait! I never said you'd be risking it for nothing. What if, in exchange for some cigarettes, I give you-"
