The Transfer Student

When Missy had expressed her desire to depart from Crestview College and instead transfer to River Valley University, her parents nearly had kittens. Their daughter had done well enough in terms of her GPA at Crestview to get through her Freshman year with relative ease. Yet Missy was bored. Bored out of her mind. The small liberal arts institution had seemed like a good idea at the time, especially since her BFF Chrissy was attending the place too. But Chrissy had dropped out after her first semester and even though Missy had made some new friends, the place was just too stuffy, too slow... It wasn't how she had imagined her college experience.

River Valley had two things going for it. It was one of the larger schools in the state, so it had a big and vibrant student community, both on campus and how it had changed the community of River Valley for the better. It had a second reputation beyond that, as being one of the biggest party and hook-up schools not just of the state, but the entire country. Was Missy primarily transferring so she could play the field with the boys she'd meet at River Valley U? No... Was it a nice bonus? Absolutely! Eventually she had successfully swayed her parents. So that September, she had loaded the same crap she had stuffed into her 2010 Jetta Sportswagon to depart from Crestview College for her Summer spent home, only to depart for River Valley.

After a quick stop at orientation, she was given directions to her new co-ed dormitory and she proceeded to haul boxes up to her room. There was a flurry of activity as she was hardly the only student moving in that day. Some of them helped by parents, others on their own or helped by friends. Missy unlocked her door and pushed the first few boxes inside, immediately noticing that whoever her roommate might turn out to be, they hadn't yet moved in. For now she had the place to herself. It took another five trips down to her car to get most of her stuff in the room, at which point it was time to unpack. There was a definite flutter of excitement in her chest as she proceeded to fill her closet and cupboards with her belongings, then unpack her books and laptop and arrange her desk. Why did this feel like much more a new beginning than her freshman year at Crestview had felt a year earlier? There was a giddiness that suddenly overcame her... a desire to explore, meet new people, get to know the new campus, which was probably four or five times as big as her previous school!
