Chapter 9 by splotch splotch

start working

Vanessa started pulling out boxes, opening each one as she went. She was sorting her stuff as her mother asked but also searching for better clothes. So far though she had no luck. It was all junk and trinkets from her youth. She huffed, opening every box that was easily assailable and finding nothing. She'd have to start digging. That meant taking stuff off the top. Her mother wanted her to bring everything out to the curb, a pile she would keep and a pile she'd toss. So, bending over she hefted a box and went out the door.

The only enterance to the garage was through the back yard. So, Lauren would have to walk through the backyard, then through the house, then out to the curb with every box. This meant that every time she passed she'd have to pass Ray and his crew. She exited the backyard, carrying a box.

"Hey, don't hurt yourself!" Ray said, noticing his stepdaughter. "We can help with those boxes."

"NO!" Lauren's mother yelled from in the house. "This is her stuff, and she's got to deal with it!" Ray shrugged, accepting his wife's words.

"Hey Lauren!" One of Ray's friend's yelled. Lauren looked over her shoulder. "Cute outfit!"

The crew all laughed. Lauren flushed. She looked down. Thankfully the box hid her chest, and they were probably not close enough to notice it's reduced size. They could see her bare legs though and feet, her white exposed limbs. She flushed, looking away to ignore the gawking men. She hurried inside, fumbling with the doorknob. She rushed into the house, slamming the door behind her. Her mother watched her pass, bemused. Lauren carried the box through, opening the front door. She set the box down. That was one down... maybe forty to go!
