friends are forever

a single blue eye peered out from beneath the mountainous heap of blankets as the persistent pounding at the front door continued.

with a sigh Clover threw off the blankets and walked tiredly to the front door,the carpet soft against her bare feet.

she rubbed her eyes and opened the door.

Sam stood there holding a paper bag in one hand and a Styrofoam cup in the other.

"nonfat latte and a salad." Sam said offering her gifts.

"to make up for my being a jerk last night."

Clover's cheeks flushed pink and she smiled a small smile.

"aww thanks Sam!" she said softly.

Clover carefully hugged her so she didn't drop anything then took the gifts from Sam and led her into the kitchen.

they sat at the table to eat. while Sam politely declined an offer of food she did accept a glass of juice from Clover's fridge.

Clover unwrapped her salad and dug in ravenously.

as Clover ate, Sam spoke.

"I was a little freaked out last night." Sam admitted, "but I'm here for you Clover."

Clover swallowed her food and smiled.

"thanks Sam. it means a lot to me. I'm sorry to be such a pain on you and Alex.

how is she?"

Sam took a sip of juice.

"she's fine. she's handling some whoop business right now."

Clover stared at her.

"what? alone?!"

Sam frowned.

"Alex can handle herself."

Clover poked at her salad with her fork.

"I guess you're right."

Sam placed hand on top of Clover's hand.

Clover met her eyes.

"Sam?"
