I really wanted to play with Ovyah’s conceptual nature, which reminded me a lot of various DC characters such as the 5th Dimensional Imp Myxsptlyk and the New Gods of Fourth World. I also found the shapeshifting being perfect, to full even telepaths, an interesting thing to play with and wondered how far I could take that. Add in the fact Clark may be attracted to a few women but is really only in love and lust of one, I knew I could do only one thing: Make Ovyah and Lois the same being.
I even had an easy explanation in the Hawk-Snarl, where the various Hawkmen and Hawkgirls are reincarnations of each other despite being the same age. This comes from some Asian traditions where a soul can incarnate into multiple bodies in one lifetime.
As to Ovyah/Lois’ looks she got a few upgrades from people Clark has noticed. Power Girl’s butt, Wonder Woman’s muscles (inspired by Seijic’s art), Black Canary’s over all form, and Oracle’s brain.
Cir-El I actually hinted at in the first chapter when I described a “soul returning from the void”, as she retconned herself out of existence to save the world. Not a fun way to go for the third woman in Post-Crisis to wear the name “Supergirl”.
