Chapter 5 by uncola man uncola man

Who do you blame?

Yourself

"I'm sorry!" you declare. "I wasn't watching where I was going and I bumped into this cabinet! I... I feel terrible! I'll help clean it up and I'll... I'll contact my parents for money to replace it. And the trophies... God, I'm so, so sorry."

They surround the pile and start carefully gathering up pieces of glass. You're sent to your room to await judgement. An hour later, one of the prefects drops by to tell you they'll have a decision in the morning.

You're being expelled. You are being expelled. This doesn't make any sense; you came forward and confessed. If you had accidentally broken a window over at City Hall and confessed, you'd have to pay a fine, sure, but that'd be it. It's totally unfair and shouldn't happen. You'll have to appeal.

Rebecca comes by to fill you in. The decision to expell you was made by Stoller's replacement and won't go into effect until she arrives. So you're still at the school for now. You don't have to pay for the display case; it was an accident and the school has very good insurance. Rebecca offers to run errands and help you in any way she can, but you can't think of anything offhand. You try to write a letter to Miss Stoller asking her to stay, but you can't think of anything to say.

You spend the rest of the day trying to accept the changes you're having to make now. The school was hard work, even with all the detentions and demerits, but it was fun being around all those womena and Skyviews really is a beautiful school. It could use a garden, though. A big one here. A small one over here. Some kind of tree here to block the road...

It's strange that you find yourself coming up with long-term plans now that you're going to be leaving.

The next day, you wake up very early and wander over to the kitchens for a snack. Maybe you'll have a big snack and skip breakfast. As you're noshing on a haphazard assortment or breads and fruits, you hear a bit of a commotion near the faculty dorms. Investigate? Why not.

A minute later, you come across a gathering of about a teachers, and about the same number of students, outside of Miss Stoller's room. "Something wrong?" you ask.

One of the teachers explains, "Miss Stoller is refusing to come out of her room and we need her to sign some papers."

THAT'S the crisis? "That doesn't sound like that big-"

"We need them in the next thirty-five minutes and she didn't come out yesterday, either."

"Oh."

"She has water and a restroom, but she hasn't eaten, and we're worried."

You make your way to the front of the grouping. Pretty easily, in fact. For the most part, they look as if they're >> to you, despite the fact that you're out of favor. They plainly don't have much experience being around men. Maybe you can make a good impression by helping out.

"Miss Stoller!" you call out, not really expecting a response.

"Go away!" she calls back.

You decide to:

What do you do?
