Chapter 3
by Odysseus
What do you see?
Your village ablaze
Fire had taken over the entire settlement. From the gate at south end of the village to the Viscount’s estate at the north, jets of flames were shooting out, engulfing almost everything. You could hear the faint screams of your neighbours as their homes were being reduced to ash. Large birds flew overhead screeching, adding to the hellish scene.
You manage to run towards the village, though not sure of what you’ll do once you arrive. One of the large bird swoops down before you squawking. It’s not a bird at all. The creature has the wings and legs of a bird, but its face is unmistakably human. The harpy screeches once more before soaring up to join her companions.
Is she it? Is she the demon I summoned. The spellbook was not the clearest on what your demon would be like, only that its power would be immeasurable and obedient. You had only meant to summon a single demon, yet there were at least two dozens harpies in the sky.
I drew a single diagram you thought there should only be a single demon. Except there was more than a single diagram. How many blue glowing diagrams had you seen in the forest? Hundreds if not thousands. You try your best to ignore the thought as you continue towards your village.
As you approach you see the extent of the damage you’ve caused. What was once the village gate is now a collection of toppled stone and burning wood. The houses that you can make out are ablaze and are beginning to collapse under their own weight. You can no longer see the Viscount’s estate, it is hidden behind a wall of smoke.
You fall to your knees crying. Your home is likely destroyed and most, if not all, of your friends and family are dead. For what? So that you can control a demon and lord over them in secret? Everything you know is gone and it is your fault. You barely notice a figure walking through the flames towards you.
Who is it?
A Novice Magician
